How many states are available with TurboTax desktop Premier?

Upon reviewing this posting, there needs to be clarification on the response: "Our TurboTax CD/download software lets you prepare and paper-file as many state returns as you want."   Does this mean you can do unlimited for the same state Or are additional states available?   Customer service says that it is only for 1 state. 

If the e-file allows returns for up to three different states for each federal return you prepare then the CD value gets diminished greatly as we are only allowed one state. 

The challenge is that I purchased a desktop CD but the only way to get an additional state is to buy it online.  You can not purchase a separate state CD.

When you purchase the CD/download for Premier it includes the download for ONE specific state program of your choosing.   You can use that program to prepare as many returns for that specific state as needed.  You are of course limited to five federal e-files and five state e-files for that state.  Additional returns can be filed by mail.  AND.....with the CD/download there is always--always--always--- a fee to e-file a state return.   If you do not want to pay that state e-file fee you can avoid it by printing and mailing the state returns.

If you need to prepare returns for a DIFFERENT state, instead of the "free" one that was included with your CD/download, you pay  $45 for that state program download---and of course you are subject to the state e-filing fees, too.

No, they do not sell CD's for state returns.  The state programs are downloads.    You can often go to state tax websites to prepare returns for free.

For Desktop

In Deluxe and above you get 1 state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns (in that state). Each state return including the first one is $20 early or $25 to efile or you can print and mail the state for free.  Except it is free to efile New York.  You can buy additional state programs for $45 each state.  Click on 1 state download under the price on the product page

Yes you can efile more than one state return for a federal return.  Maybe 3 I can't find that note right now.  You can print and mail the rest.
