To update the school district code for Vermont Form IN-111:
|
There is no field on this page to update the code, and there is no option to Continue, only "Back." I have tried deleting the return and starting over, but I'm still just getting to this dead-end.
The range is 001 to 251 and the list of acceptable solutions is in the program, under Learn More. Are you saying that you choose the correct code and then something goes wrong?
You need the correct school district code for paying the right taxes to the right district. Here is School district income tax lookup.
You can fill this form out for someone to call you.
I am a nonresident, so code 999 has been entered which, according to the list of acceptable code, is the correct code that should be entered. However, I can not get past this screen. The only option I have is "Back" and going "Back" does not help. What do I need to do?
@LSicard You may be filing the wrong tax return. TurboTax will not ask you to fill in a school district code unless you are a resident or part-year resident. Go back to the screen Vermont Main Form. Make sure Nonresident is checked. Then continue. TurboTax will next ask for your state of residence and automatically add code 999.
What if you were a part time resident and didn't reside in Vermont on December 31, 2020? Do you still put the last school district you were a part of? Or something else?
Having the exact same issue. We moved to Vermont in October from New Hampshire. So it wants me to put in a school district code but there is no spot to do so.
I just figured it out, if you change your residency to full time and the change the school district code to what you need to be and the go back and change the residency to part time it holds the change of school district code
I’m having the EXACT same problem with my Vermont return.
I just got off a 90 minutes call with a TT rep….and we tried EVERYTHING to get the prompt on the page to enter or reenter and NOTHING worked.
She filed an investigation.
She expected an entry area down at the bottom of the screen..and even had me click down there in case it was an invisible box. No luck.
Bug in the software. I’m filling for an extension and hoping TT fixes the bug in time.
Did you follow my steps above? That’s how I got it to go away. I changed my residency to full time and then it allowed me to put in a school district code. Then I went back and changed my residency to part time and the school code carried forward from the switch back from full to part time.
Yes. Thank you.
I did that.I deleted my entire VT return. And then started again. It seems to default to RESIDENT..So I select ‘Another Residency’…I click Part-time, Then enter the dates that i resided w/in the state in 2021…Enter 090n for my School District. [Not sure of the order here]. .select Foreign country/territory…then select foreign country….And for some reason it defaults / reverts the School Code to 999…meaning NON-RESIDENT. Anyway for some reason I went through it all again and SUBMITTED in to VT….with the 999 code in the return…for a PART-TIME RESIDENT and to my surprise they ACCEpted it. Go figure. We’ll see if it’s rejected later. Thanks again for your help. Bill
While doing my Vermont State return I receive the same message that several others have:
“You entered a school district code that is outside the acceptable range. Let's go Back and check the number. What's an acceptable code?”
There is no place to enter or correct the code.
I am a Part-time resident…I live in Hartford School district. 090.
Should be straight-forward.
TT started my State return as a RESIDENT which I changed to Part-time resident. This may be linked to the bug.
BTW I had the SAME PROBLEM LAST YEAR with my VT State return.
If anyone knows a work-around or whether TT has fixed the bug please LMK. Thanks. 🙏
FEBRUARY 2023 (2022 Vermont Return)
SAME EXACT PROBLEM!
You entered a school district code that is outside the acceptable range. Let's go Back and check the number. What's an acceptable code?
It looks like all the Vermont school district codes are under 260 and three digits, so code 33 would be 033.
Here is the list of codes from the Vermont Department of Taxes. Please verify if your code matches.
If this does not help, please let us know which code you are attempting to enter.
