How can I change my selection of sales tax deduction to state income tax deduction?

Try this:

  • Federal
  • Deductions & Credits
  • Estimates and other taxes Paid
  • Sales Tax...update
  • Let's compare...continue
  • Enter receipts...
  • Total sales tax paid...enter zero
  • That will for sure give you zero sales tax

Please let me know if you need more help with this by asking in the comment box below.

How can I change my selection of sales tax deduction to state income tax deduction?

I chose "Try State Sale Tax" to calculate and compare the total deduction. But I have no way to make it back to use "State Income Tax" mode.

SO the Turbo tax picked up standard deduction for me. I have no way to back to itemized deduction. Thus I have to be forced to pay $4,000 more tax

How could I back to itemized deduction mode?

How can I change my selection of sales tax deduction to state income tax deduction?

Try this:

  • Do a Search (upper right) for itemized deductions, choosing (yes, with the comma), and then click on the jump-to result
  • The screen that comes up will ask you whether you want the Standard Deduction or Itemized Deductions. Check "Change my deduction" first
  • Then you can choose the Standard Deduction
