Ok....it works on the 2015 software as far as I can see...
You should never use an override...if you have to do that, you need to call Customer Support, or ask in here for clarification as to what you should do so that we can look for bugs
I don't understand exactly where you put them in to get an override entry that ends up on line 3 of the NC Sched S, but that's really immaterial since no override is necessary
1) You start on the Wages & Income page and scroll down to the K-1 form entry. (Picture 1)
2) You go in there and select the 1041, K-1 form type, enter the K-1 name...address...Estate or Trust ID number..etc....indicate Domestic Beneficiary (assuming you are).
3) A few other questions, and you get to Picture 2. You check any boxes you need, but box 14 is the one your Tax-Exempt $$ should have been reported on...so make sure that box is checked
4)....then when you get to the box 14 entry...you choose Tax-Exempt interest for the first line Picture 3, and the $$ amount.
5)...then continue to the next page....Where you select "More Than One State" from the bottom of the states list.(Picture 4) ....and then you step thru a couple more questions and you're done!.
6) ...those entries for the K-1 will take those $$ and add them into line 1 of the Sched S....which is where they belong. (Picture 5). In my example, I had $1224 of other non-NC tax-exempts on line 1 (from 1099-DIV and -INT forms) before I entered the K-1, and I ended up with +$666 or $1890 total.
So it seems that those $$ can be clearly assigned with the entry of the K-1 form....which does allow you to assign the $$ to all other states such that the $$ are added back to NC taxable income on the NC Sched S. No other entries or overrides anywhere else are required.
