1) Was it from an actual IRA account?
....1a) if sent directly from the IRA account to the charity, then it's called a QCD, and you enter that information as part of the follow-up questions right after you enter the 1099-R for that IRA distribution....then those $$ are removed from taxable income. In this situation you Do Not also take a charity deduction for it...it's already accounted for. [apparently also a valid QCD if your IRA allows check writing and you wrote a check to the charity...A check Which directly debits the IRA account]]]
...1b) If you received the $$ yourself, and then wrote a check or debit from your personal account, then it's just a normal charity donation on the Deductions&Credits page
2) Donation from any other type of retirement plan?? Whether direct (if any allow that) or you write a separate check....Then it's just a charity donation on the Deductions&Credits page

Not sure why they haven't allowed a QCD from a 401k/TSP plan...maybe they will some year. (oh Yeah..they want taxes)
