W2 & 1099-R

I retired from federal service (CSRS) on 12/31/2022.  I received both a W2 and a 1099-R for tax year 2023.  This seems unusual, if not odd. What am I not getting?

The W-2 might represent the payment to you of accrued personal leave.

W2 & 1099-R

It is probably your lump sum payout of Annual Leave along with your last paycheck.

Did you work at that job at all in 2023 and/or receive any paychecks in 2023 at all for the last pay period, perhaps?   If not--- you should call and ask why they sent a W-2.

No, last official day was 31 December 2022.  And naturally, my last paycheck was received days after the pay period closed which was in 2023.

Even if your last day of work was 12-31-22-----a paycheck issued in 2023 would explain the W-2.  Is the W-2 for the amount of that last check?
