Social security tax withheld

You simply enter the SSA 1099 just like you ordinarily would, with the amount withheld entered in Box 6.  Unless you had no other income, some of your social security may be taxable, so there's no reason to expect a full refund of your withholdings.  See the following link about the taxability of your benefits:

Social security tax withheld

what form can i use to start having social security withheld from my wages?

You give your employer a W4 to tell him how much to take out. They should give you a blank one to fill out when they hired you.  Or are they paying you as an independent contractor instead of an employee?

Here is a bank one

Actually the W4 is only for federal and state withholding not Social Security.   They will automatically take out Social Security and Medicare without a W4.  If they are not taking out SS then you are not an employee but self employed and need to pay the Social Security yourself on your own.  That is the self employment tax.  Ask your employer if you are a W2 or 1099Misc employee.

For SE self employment tax - if you have a net profit (after expenses) of $400 or more you will pay 15.3% SE Tax on 92.35% of your net profit in addition to your regular income tax on it. So if you have other income like W2 income your extra business income might put you into a higher tax bracket.

You must make quarterly estimated tax payments for the current tax year if both of the following apply:

- 1. You expect to owe at least $1,000 in tax for the current tax year, after subtracting your withholding and credits.

- 2. You expect your withholding and credits to be less than the smaller of:

90% of the tax to be shown on your current year’s tax return, or

100% of the tax shown on your prior year’s tax return. (Your prior year tax return must cover all 12 months).

Here are the blank Estimates and instructions…..

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040es.pdf

The 1040ES quarterly estimates are due April 15, 2019, June 17, Sept 16 and Jan 15, 2020.  Your state will also have their own estimate forms.

Or you can pay directly on the IRS website https://www.irs.gov/payments

Be sure to pick the right kind of payment and year.....2019 Estimate

Social security tax withheld

Box 6 of. the 1099 shows that I voluntary withheld money for Federal Income Tax; however, there is NO box 6 in Turbotax's Social Sec form.   Instead, Line G of the Turbotax form states "Total federal tax withheld from box 10 of all RRB-1099 Forms".  I have no RRB 1099 form; so, how do I get credit for the tax I had withheld?

Sounds like you are entering it in the wrong place.  Delete this one and start over.

Try going to the search box upper right and type in SSA-1099 or Social Security Benefits. That will give you a Jump To link to take you directly to it.

OR
Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099 under
Federal
Wages and Income tab
Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Update button

See box 6 on this screen....
