On the Form 1099-R which box was used to report these premium payments?
They may come out as pre-tax. Is box 2a less than box 1 for it?
Info shows in box 5 ... anmd box 2a is less than box 1.
Info shows in box 5 ... anmd box 2a is less than box 1.
Don't think it matters what box 2a or 5 state ... the real question is why doesn't TTax show info for my spouse that IS shown and entered from her 1099r?
Make sure when you entered your 1099-R's that you designated one as yours and one belonging to your Spouse. This is a common entry error.
If you're using TurboTax Online, close the program, clear your Cache and Cookies and return to that section.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop, in FORMS mode, review the 1099-R Summary to see entries for both you and your spouse.
Thanks Marilyn, but that's "exactly" what I have done - several times. I entered 'exact' info for both my wife and myself from our 1099-R forms; and, even deleted the info and reentered it.
I have used Turbo Tax for the last 32+ years and I also worked for Intuit as a Tech Support Lead & Manager for seven years, so I really do know what I am doing in TTax.
The 'Form 1099-R Summary' and the 'Schedule A Medical Expenses Worksheet' forms still show info only from/for my 1099-R and NOT from/for my wife's 1099-R. So there must be a 'program issue', since I am doing everything correctly -- and not making a 'common entry error.'
It actually doesn't matter in the long-run for us, since we'll take the standard deduction; but it is just very frustrating that the program I have used and supported for so long still has basic errors.
Thanks again, for your time!
I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:
TurboTax Online:
TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:
*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)
Thank you, Susan. I will send a diagnostic file later today.
More info: The $1,820.90 ($1,821) figure shows for each of us in/on block/line #5 of the Forms View for 'Distributions from Pensions, IRAs, etc' for our individual 1099-Rs from the Office of Personnel Management. So again, why isn't that number being shown for my spouse on the 'Medical Worksheet and 1099-R Summary forms'?
Thanks again!
Susan,
Had time to send the diagnostic earlier. Token # is 13563577477982219-76481778
Thanks.
Thank you for providing this additional information. I was able to confirm what you have described and we will forward this to developers for review.
Great. Again, it isn't really an issue for us, since we'll take the standard deduction; but, it is just very frustrating that the program I've used and supported for so long still has some basic errors.
Have a good day and tax-season!
Even though you mentioned that you are taking the standard deduction and the medical premiums shown on your Forms 1099-R will not affect your return, I wanted to share the results of examining your diagnostic tax file in detail.
When the Form 1099-R is entered and there is a number reported in box 5, the amount can represent more than one thing. Medical insurance premiums is one of the options. There is a specific follow-up question that comes up after entering the Form 1099-R that asks for the amount from box 5 that was used for insurance premiums. Looking at the inputs from the diagnostic tax file, this amount was entered in the follow-up question for the taxpayer's Form 1099-R. The amount was not entered in the follow-up question for the spouse's Form 1099-R.
Using the test file, the follow-up question about box 5 for the spouse's Form 1099-R was entered and the data was carried to the appropriate forms without any issues.
Thank you for the reply and the follow up. What you stated makes perfect sense; however, when I initially entered the info in Block 5 for my spouse, and when I review the entries again, that follow-up question for my spouse's Form 1099-R was NOT and is still NOT asked. It is asked about my Block 5 entry, but it does NOT appear for her 1099-R. So how do you see it?
I have all the latest updates installed for TTax and I see even more new questions about the 1009-Rs (mainly ref any RMD) but not a question for her insurance.
Should I 'delete' her 1099-R again and re-enter the info?
Thanks again!
