Thanks I used this and it worked. Schwab had the state distribution blank on my 1099-R form for an inherited IRA and TT wouldn't allow it. Seems like either Schwab or TT has this wrong... shouldn't be kicking out.
You're a life saver.
I have the same problem but TT will not allow me to type a change into box 16. It will only allow me to change box 14a. So box 16 remains $0 and is not editable. How do you edit it?

In this case it would be best to delete the Form 1099-R and then re-enter the form manually to clear the program error for box 16.
how do I enter the NY distribution number into box 16? TT kept saying box 14 cannot be equal or less than box 16--distribution..so the community advice is to use the fed distribution number in box 1..BUT HOW DO I ENTER DATA INTO BOX 16 WITHOUT HAVING TO REDO ALL THE TAX CALCULATION? I filed Fed already and NY is holding up the state filing..thank you
On my 2022 form 1099-r there is no amount in box 16 for state distribution but state tax was withheld. What amount should I put in box 10 for state distribution?

Enter the amount in box 1 of the Form 1099-R in the box 16.
I switched jobs last year in 2022, and my former employer moved my empower retirement to another retirement company. I received my 1099 form, but it's labeled as G, because it was a roller over. In box 16, there isn't a state distribution amount. Do I just put 0?
Not necessarily.
If you are receiving an error message because there is nothing in the state distribution box and there were state taxes withheld, then enter the box 1 amount in box 16. Otherwise, leave box 16 blank as it was reported on your Form 1099-R.
