I took all my RMD in 2020 but later the IRS said no RMD was going to be required in 2020. I returned a third back. My1099R shows the whole RMD. Do I ask for a new 1099R?

When entering your 1099-R say that the distribution was NOT a RMD and you will be asked if any was rolled over and in what amount.

And no, you don't ask for a new Form 1099-R.  The Form 1099-R is correct.  The distribution is considered to be  taxable until you report it on your tax return as having been rolled over.

Thanks this was my first time I returned any money to an IRA and I never had reason to page down the TT form 1099R to read and find the section/situation that applied, select it and fill out the info.  I'm a little embarrassed .

No need to ask for a new 1099R.  Just indicate at the RMD page "No" you did not take all your RMD and you will be asked the Cares Act questions to determine how much of your distribution is taxable.  When you report your withdrawal on form 1099-R tell the program that it was NOT an RMD. You will then be prompted to report that the amount was rolled over.

took out rmd and then put it back as was not necessary to take it out.  no matter how I enter this and what i check it still makes it taxable.  even after reading your help information.

it doesn't work what you say to do.  still shows it as taxable.

You must delete and reenter the 1099-R.
