You can make any changes you need as long as you have not submitted your return for e-filing yet. You can sign-in (if you used TurboTax Online) or open your return (if you used a desktop version) and go to the income section and make your changes. If you have already submitted your return and it is showing as pending, you will need to wait until E-filing opens later this month to see if your return is accepted or rejected before going forward.
You should receive a SSA-1099 form by the end of the month that will show you exactly what you need to report on your tax return.
In the program on the SSA 1099 screen you do enter ALL of your SS payment and then the program will compute how much is taxable. So if you entered the amount of box 5 you did it correctly.
FYI - Only up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security, reaches:
Married Filing Jointly: $32,000
Single or head of household: $25,000
Married Filing Separately: 0
