I am applying for ITIN for my dependents who are required to be claimed under allowable tax benefits. How do I go about this? there is now way to do this in turbo tax.

I filled out a W7 form for my dependents along with my tax return, but the W7 was rejected stating that I did not claim my dependents under any allowable tax benfit, but there seems to be no way to claim any body under allowable tax benefits without any ssn or ITIN. There is no way to fill out a schedule 8812, the additional form I need to fill out to substantiate my claim of my dependents under allowable tax benefit, in turbo tax, again, without any valid ssn or ITIN.

You can not efile if there is a person on your return that does not have a ssn or itin.

In the Personal Info section of TurboTax you will  enter your dependent’s name and date of birth. Since they do not have a social security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) you will leave this section blank. 

 

This will generate an error in the TurboTax program. Ignore the error and print the tax return with errors.

  

You will send in Form W-7 for each dependent  with your tax return. The ITIN application must be accompanied by a tax return to be processed.  Here is a link to Form W-7 and its instructions:  Form W-7 and Instructions.
