It's now Feb 15th, and this form is still not available in turbotax, preventing me from filing. Will it be available soon?
I am also waiting for it. BTW it is avail on the CA website for 2021 so the form exists from State of CA. What is the hold up ? I cannot file without it.
@greenjeanie - The form that you see on the website is what is being updated and is not yet available for electronic filing. Once the form is finalized by the FTB it will be provided to TurboTax for programming and updating the system.
Based on the CA Forms Availability page this form will not be available until March 3, 2022. Please use this link to follow the updates. California Forms Availability

Keep in mind:
Hello
Once the form is released can we e-file through turbo tax, and also what is this form for? Many of the links online don't really explain it well. Lastly, the site says the form release date is 2/10 but it's not available.
Thank you
Hello
Why would I need a 3801 form if I have not purchased anything? Also, I did consulting work and earned less than 10k and I filed a 1099. The only thing that is holding me up from filing is the 3801 and I have a feeling that I really don't need to file a 3801.
Kindly advise.
Thank you
Thank you, @ThomasM125 !! That worked. Now, how do I just file my state return in turbo tax? I've already filed my federal taxes, but the turbo tax Deluxe program brings me to "E-File Your Federal Return for Free", but I have already filed them. How do I skip to filing my state return? Thank you!
@Ctaxquestions You don't need to take further action on your state return. If you like, you can go into Turbo Tax and indicate that you will print and mail your state return so you won't get reminder emails to complete your state return.
I only e-filed my fed return, and will file State later once the 3801 form is available. However, I now only see the option to mail the State return. When form 3801 is available, will I be able to e-file my CA state return, or will I have to mail it?
@jonk1969 No, you can actually go back in your return and efile your state return later. To access it;
Thank you everyone, I resolved the issue
I do not think it is available yet. It is past 2/10/22. Turbotax does not have it and it strongly appears California does not yet have it - unless I am doing something wrong. Other sites claim to have it, but really do not.
Very disappointing California. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong).
CA has been slow in releasing forms this year. You can file your federal now and then file state after federal is accepted and form released
I deleted a 1099-NEC that was somehow carried over from my 2020 return. Yet, when I select "Federal Review" it points out that I need to add an EIN to my NEC form! The form data is empty. I no longer see the 1099-NEC in the "Delete a Form" section. I'm not sure if it's related to the Form 3801 requirement. I do own a Rental Property but have never had a Form 3801 in my prior returns. How can I delete that pesky 1099-NEC without clearing my data and starting over? Then I can be sure that the Form 3801 is related to my rental property. ARGH!
When is it going to be ready. I am stuck... today is 2/20/2022
Please see this Turbo Tax FAQ for assistance.
How do I delete my 2020 1099-NEC?
