Yes, if you bought and sold cryptocurrency in 2021 and received a 1099-B, you will need TurboTax Premier. If you had any income from mining, you would need Home & Business. If your only cryptocurrency transactions were related to staking and rewards and this was reported to you on a 1099-MISC, those can be reported in the Deluxe version.
TurboTax Desktop does not support the import of 1099-Bs from cryptocurrency sites. They can still be entered manually or by importing TurboTax Online data.
I upgraded to Premier and I still don't thave the Crypto 1099 option described in the instructions, nor is there a way to upload a csv.
Only the TurboTax Online Premier and Self-employed versions allow you to import cryptocurrency. If you are using the CD/Download version, you have several options:
One option is to start a free tax return in TurboTax Premier Online. You don't pay for the return until you file it, so you won't have to pay the Online fee. Enter (import) your cryptocurrency information in the Crypto section, and then save the .tax file (not PDF). You can then open the tax file in TurboTax desktop, add the rest of your tax data and file.
Another option would be to file using the Online software and get a refund for the desktop program using this link: How do I request a refund for my TurboTax product?
The final option is to manually enter your cryptocurrency transactions, and report them as stock sales on Schedule D. You'll find this in TurboTax CD/Download under Income >> Investment Income >> Stocks, Mutual Funds, etc.
You may have some cryptocurrency transactions that are reported in other areas of your tax return. TurboTax has a Cryptocurrency Info Center that may assist you in determining where to enter all your cryptocurrency transactions.
That really sucks, I bought the Premier program on staples and paid $200 on a coin tracker to make it easy to import all my crypto sites svc, and it can't be done. So I have to return the program and do the online version...wish you promote the program correctly with all details
ok, I see there is a way to move your Desktop version to the Online! Great...if anybody is lost like me and purchase the disk or download version and have cryptos you can still use the online version just sign in with the same credential you did on the desktop version somewhere in there on the online version you'll find your desktop version with the blue letter telling you to connect to online, crypto tax option will show up later on
