Turbo Tax won't accept my Edward Jones Ohio 1099 R that shows state tax of $751.69 taken out and $0 for state distribution. What should I do? I called Edward Jones and they don't know why Turbo Tax isn't accepting it!

Enter the amount in box 1 of the Form 1099-R in box 16 for the state distribution.

But..my 1099 R shows state tax taken out on line 15 with 0 state distribution on line 16. Turbo tax isn't accepting it. What should I do?? Turbo Tax needs to get this glitch fixed now!!

I uninstalled my TT 2024 and downloaded it again.  Same problem.  Gonna try calling TT HQ tomorrow and complain.

I feel your pain.  TT won't take my wife's Edward Jones 1099-R or my First Command 1099-R.   Definitely a TT glitch.  Going to try to reach Turbo Tax HQ & Intuit HQ tomorrow (although I'm not optimistic).

I never use the download, given my two pension plans don't seem to participate in said download availability.

 

Is the problem still the "Needs Review" problem or it says something else in an error message? "Needs Review" would most likely be something is not in a box or missing something else somewhere. A download error is going to most likely be a failure to happen type of error message.

It's not a financial institution download.  It's the Turbo Tax download.  They didn't offer the disc this year (guess they're trying to save money).  Downloading TT was the only option.

But my actual Edward Jones 1099 R has $751.69 state tax taken out and the state distribution amount says $0 so am I suppose to fill in an amount from box 1in the state distribution amount myself? Will e-file reject it if I do this? Never had this problem before. I've used TT for many years!! TT needs to fix this glitch right away!

If there is state withholding and the state distribution is blank or zero then enter the amount from box 1.   That won’t affect the federal return.  The state distribution isn’t needed for the state return.  The state usually starts with the federal AGI.

I got the similar advice from several on this thread.  I don't know if arbitrarily plugging in an amount to satisfy the program will work or not.  I'm very leery of trying it--so I'm not.  Gonna wait for some expert advice from actual TT personnel.  Although I'd like to get my return transmitted & processed as quickly as possible, we've still got a lot of time to submit returns.  I will (reluctantly) wait until TT gets its act together--hopefully sooner than later.

Just spoke with TT official rep (Shamika) at 1-800-446-8848 /TT Customer Service.  Took me a couple tries to get through.  Explained the problem to her.  She said to enter the amount in Box 1/Gross Distribution in Box 16/State Distribution.  I asked if that would cause my return to get kicked back or delayed--as my1099-R shows $0.00 in Box 16.  She said it wouldn't.  I asked her why doesn't TT explain/clarify that somewhere in the program.  She didn't know.  Going to take a leap of faith and do what she says.  I wish us all luck.

I don't know why TT removes business phone numbers from posts.  That info would be helpful to community members who don't know it.   FYI, the TT Customer Service # is eight hundred, four four six, eight eight four eight.  Take that TT!!  🙂
