Trying to e-file, TT keeps sending me back to same question. Box 15 total needs to be less than box 2a on my 1099 R, it is. TT will not let me continue with my e-file.

Unless this is corrected but it is not wrong. The only option that I'm given is to file another way.

Box 15 on a 1099-R is local tax - that would be VERY unusual to have a local tax withheld. What is actually in box 15?

If a local tax is in box 15 then the name of the locality, county or city name must be in box 16.

Sounds like there might be an error on the 1099-R.

If you have tried to correct the error, you can delete the entry and re-enter. If you go back to Federal > Wages & Income, select the option to view all income types and return to Retirement Plans and Social Security. Select "Revisit" to delete or edit the entry for Form 1099-R.

If the information on Form 1099-R is incorrect, you will need to contact the issuer to request a corrected copy.
