One of my former employers last year just mailed me a 1095C form telling me I had health insurance coverage from them during September 2018. I have already filed my taxes, and claimed I was uninsured in August AND September 2018. Because I reported inaccurate information about my insurance coverage (I was actually uninsured for just the month of August), do I now need to completely redo my taxes?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will not need to redo your taxes, because doing so would not change your "short coverage gap" exemption from the Affordable Care Act penalty. The short coverage gap allows two months, so you are good whether the gap is one month, or two.
If for some reason the IRS writes you about this, you can send them a copy of your 1095-C in response, but honestly, I think they will not bother, since they also get a copy of it.
