If you are receiving a civil service pension, yes it is required.
You can obtain your CSA 1099-R (Civil Service Annuity payment form) by logging into Retirement Services Online to view, print, or download a copy. Alternatively, you can use the OPM 1099-R request tool to have a copy sent to your email, or call the OPM retirement office at 1-888-767-6738 to request a mailed copy.
To enter, edit or delete a form 1099-R -
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button
Online editions -
On the screen Did you get a 1099-R in 2025? Click on Yes
On the screen Let's import your tax info Click on Change how I enter my form
On the screen How would you like to upload your 1099-R? Click on Type it in myself
On the screen Who gave you a 1099-R? select the type of 1099-R you received and Continue
You have to get your CSA-1099-R from the Office of Personnel Management. You can download it from the OPM Retirement Services Online portal or you can call 1-888-767-6738. You will need your claim number (starts with CSA) and PIN.
If you cannot get the form, you can try contacting the OPM for assistance.
You can finish in TurboTax without your physical form by requesting a Wage and Income Transcript directly from the IRS, which shows all of your 1099s on file.
