Yes, TurboTax will automatically verify if your and your spouse's traditional IRA contribution is deductible.
To clarify, your spouse is not covered by a retirement plan but you are covered by one since you mention the $198,000 limit. (If she is covered by a retirement plan at work then the limit is $105,000.)
You might want to check if her W-2 has the retirement box checked or has a retirement entry in box 12:
Please see IRA deduction limits for additional information.
Thank you for response. My wife has no earned income for 2021 so she has no W-2 in her name. However, the software isn't adjusting when I model a $6k contribution to be made prior to 4/18/22 for the 2021 tax year.
Please check line 20 on Schedule 1 (IRA deductions) if it shows the correct amount for both of your contributions.
To preview Form 1040 and Schedule 1:
If not then please try to delete and reenter your wife's contribution.
Just to verify, you had enough earned income to cover both of your and your wife's contributions, correct?
If none of this helps you might have to call TurboTax support to help you: What is the TurboTax phone number?
Yes, we had enough earned income for both contributions. I will try to delete and reenter as 1040 doesn't show wife's contribution.
Thank you for the assistance.
