I have to mail in my federal tax return My only income was social security and alimony. do I need to attach the SSA 1099 to my return when I mail it in?

No, you do not have to attach your SSA1099. If you have any W-2's or 1099R's they need to be attached to a mailed return.

Also, you don't need to attach all 1099-R, only those that have federal income tax withheld in box 4 of the form.
