If the interest income is over $1500 his return is not a "simple" return and you will need to upgrade.

The free version is very versatile.

These are the situations covered

  • W-2 income
  • Interest or dividends
    • Except (1099-INT/1099-DIV) that don’t require filing a Schedule B
    • This occurs when you reach $1,500
  • IRS standard deduction
  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
  • Child Tax Credit (CTC)
  • Student loan interest deduction

Other tax situations will require an upgrade.
