I cannot efile my return without a payer tax ID for the Social Security on my 1099-R. All of your help and searching is not helping!! This seems to be an ongoing problem as you have customers reporting this same issue from 2021, etc. Thanks you Merrie H. Rockwell

Do you have a 1099-R for pension/IRA distributions or a SSA-1099 for social security benefits?
While you filing 1099R, which TurboTax-term are you using to fill your data?
If you are trying to enter your Social Security benefits, then you will not need to enter an EIN or Federal ID number. You will only be asked to enter the information on your Form SSA-1099. Go to Wages and Income > Retirement Plans and Social Security and be sure to click Start or Update beside Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099) to enter Social Security income.
If you are trying to enter information reported on Form 1099-R for a retirement plan distribution, then you will be asked to enter the EIN or Federal ID number.
While I filling 1099R, what do you mean by "retirement plan distribution"?
That is only several-hundreds dollars from gov into my checking account. Then which "distribution" do I choose? The App asked 401k, IRA etc. Can I choose "none"?
Thanks.
What type of retirement did you get the payments from? If it was not from any of the options listed, then you can choose none if that is an option.

What do you get from the gov? Do you get Social Security or SS Disability or ssi or a SSA-1099 form?
For SS or a SSA-1099, If it's asking for an EIN number you are entering it in the wrong place. There is no EIN on social security SSA-1099. Delete it and enter it here,
Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099 under
Federal tab (Personal for Home&Business)
Wages and Income
Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
Then the second line - Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Revisit button
Did you enter your 1099-R and 1099-SSA? Is the distribution question in the federal section? If you are not sure if this is a pension, 401K distribution or 403b plan, you would need to contact your plan administrator to get that information.
With all the different types of questions you have, you may want to consider using TurboTax Live Assist. They can pop on your screen and see what you are seeing. This can be a great help if you have multiple questions as it allows for answers right away instead of in a thread. You can show them where you are in your return and then they can respond with an answer that is more direct and can help you untangle everything that is going on.
Thanks for the info of Turbo live.
