100%disabled where do we enter info

There isn't actually a special place to enter that a person is disabled, or a specific tax credit for the disabled on a federal tax return.

However, there is an increased exemption if you are considered completely blind on or before December 31, 2016.

To indicate this in in the Personal Info section of TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Personal Info tab.
  2. Click on Edit next to your name.  [See Screenshot #1, below.]
  3. In section #3, A few other things we need to know, mark the button that I was considered legally blind as of December 31, 2016.   [Screenshot #2]
  4. Click Continue when done.

Certainly, you can include, toward your itemized deductions, any out-of-pocket medical expenses that may be a result of your disability, subject to the usual limits (i.e., medical expenses only "count" if they exceed 10% of your Adjusted Gross Income).  Even then, you can only itemize deductions if your total deductions exceed the standard deduction for your filing status (i.e., Married Filing Jointly, Single, etc.).

Some states have special tax benefits in their tax laws for the disabled.  If this is the case, the question would be asked as you're going through the state interview in TurboTax.
