We currently rent our home in Ohio. Do we need to pay school taxes while renting and if not, how do we report that on the state return?

Who Pays The School District Tax - Any individual residing in the state of Ohio who lives during all or part of a tax year in a school district that levies the tax. A part-year resident must pay the SDIT based upon income received during the portion of the taxable year in which he/she is a resident of the school district that has enacted the tax.

This "tax rate" will depend on the school district you live in. This tax rate would be for every resident of the School District whether you rent or own property.

For more information see the Ohio School District Income Tax you will also find a link to a list of school districts and their tax rates if any. You can also use the School District Income Tax Tool to look up your specific tax rate by your address and/or zip code.
