I've imported my 2023 return on desktop (successfully) but data doesn't show up in 2024 software. I did the same by importing it from the online file (successfully). 2024 software needs the update, all the prompts and comparisons from last year's data are not happening

So you prepared your 2023 return in TurboTax Online, then downloaded your 2023 tax file to your computer, and then transferred it into the TurboTax Desktop program for 2024, but it is not showing the 2023 data correctly?
I'm confused by you saying you 'imported your 2023 return on desktop' and by 'importing it from the online file'; where did the saved .tax2023 file come from?
If you saved it in a cloud-type storage, when you download it to your desktop to transfer into the 2024 program, it could be corrupted.

What file did you transfer into 2024? The 2023 pdf file or the file ending in .tax2023? The pdf only transfers limited info. And please clear up where you did 2023 and doing 2024. You have the 2024 Desktop program installed?
If you used Online for 2023 then you start a New Return in the Desktop program. Then on the Transfer screen should be a blue button to Import from Turbo Tax Online.
I first imported the .tax2023 file from my desktop for the 2024 desktop software. It reported a successful download but did not prompt businesses or properties or charities from 2023. And as I look, those values show $0 for year over year comparison. I later started a new file and downloaded the pdf from the website/cloud, with same result.
In your 2024 desktop product, did you enter any initial info, like your name, before initiating the transfer of 2023? What's confusing is your reference to 'download', 'import', when we're referring to a 'transfer' from 2023 to 2024, correct?
Is the .tax2023 file on your desktop where you can Browse for it from the 2024 Tax Return window? In my experience, there's no prompting for anything until you open that section, but you're correct that you may see 2023 amounts on the Topics Listings for Income, Deductions & Credits, Etc.
So when you click into a section in your 2024 return (with 2023 info transferred), you see nothing? And no forms in FORMS mode? And you've verified that there is data in the 2023 file, as you're able to open it in the 2023 program, also on your computer?
If this applies, sounds like something wrong with the 2024 program. I would recommend uninstall/reinstall.
Here's some tips that may help (not knowing your computer/system configuration), aside from Contacting TurboTax Support:
I successfully transferred the .tax2023 file but the tax history and a lot of information was missing. I then reopened turbotax 2023 to confirm I was looking at the correct file (the name was slightly different). I believe the default .tax2023 file that populated for transfer (in desktop 2024) was not the correct file, likely an earlier version than my completed 2023 return. I then chose to search for the file to transfer and was ultimately successful in getting previous years data to transfer into 2024.
