I received long term and short term capital gains distributions from a mutual fund which I still own. I made NO sales. Where do I report these gains

Your mutual fund administrator should send you a tax form. To enter form 1099-DIV, see Where do I enter my 1099-DIV in TurboTax Online?

  • When your mutual fund makes a distribution of its investment earnings to you and reports it in box 2a of Form 1099-DIV, the IRS generally allows you to treat the distribution like a long-term capital gain. This is beneficial since the same tax rules that apply to your qualified dividends also apply to mutual fund capital gain distributions, regardless of whether you hold the investment for 10 days or 10 years.

I imported the 1099-DIV from the broker into TurboTax.  Import looks good: Seven short and long term cap gains reinvested in 4Q21; like original post, no sales were made.  However TurboTax wants to be told about the 1099-B (none issued).  Wants a) total proceeds (sum of all 1d); b) total cast basis (sum of 1e); and c) Sale category (e.g.  Box A - Short Term Covered). Rather insistent with bright red outlined boxes to be filled in.  Please advise

Something went wrong in your upload. I suggest you delete the information and type it in by hand. Seven transactions summarized on one 1099-DIV will be quick, easy, and accurate when you do it.
