I lived in a hotel for 2 months until I was able to find an apartment I was told that this expense could be claimed on my taxes. If this is possible how can this be done?

Sorry--someone misinformed you.  There is nothing about staying in a hotel that is deductible on your federal tax return.  If someone told you it could be deducted as a job-related moving expense, moving expenses are no longer deductible except for certain active duty members of the military.  Sorry.
