If you are trying to enter long -term capital gains, follow the steps below to enter your 1099-B:

  1. Launch TurboTax
  2. Select Federal and Wages & Income
  3. Select Add more income
  4. Select the dropdown by Investments and Savings
  5. Select Start/Edit by Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds (1099-B) Please note that you may have to upgrade to TurboTax Premium
  6. TurboTax will guide you through the screens to enter your 1099-B.

Review the TurboTax Help article Where do I enter or import a 1099-B? for more information.

For instructions to enter other capital gains not reported on a 1099-B in TurboTax Online or TurboTax Desktop review the following links.

If your capital gain was from the sale of rental property, refer to the TurboTax Help article I sold my rental property. How do I report that?

Long term capital gains or losses from an an investment sale are reported on a federal tax return, Form 1040 Line 7.

Did you report an investment sale on Schedule D and Form 8949?

Even though it shows up as income on the first page,if you have capital gains or qualified dividends the tax is not taken from the tax table but is calculated separately from schedule D.  The tax will be calculated on the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet.  It does not get filed with your return.    See this FAQ

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/forms/help/form-1040-line-11-amount-is-less-than-standard-irs-tax-...

In the online version you need to save your return as a pdf file and include all worksheets to see it.

For the Desktop version you can switch to Forms Mode and open the worksheet to see it.  Click Forms in the upper right (upper left for Mac) and look through the list and open the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet.
