HOW DO I GET LINE 29 TO DEDUCT MY HEALTH CARE PREMIUM ON PAGE 1
Best answer by KatherineC

If you are self-employed, have health insurance in either your name or your business name and meet a few other requirements (including having net income on your Schedule C), you can deduct health insurance on Line 29 of your Form 1040.

To enter:

  1. Click the Edit button beside your business income.
  2. Under your business expenses, click on the Less common expenses button.  Scroll down to Health Insurance Premiums and click on it.  (See screen shot below).
  3. Click Continue and enter the information for your insurance.

Please see the following link to first make sure you meet the requirements.

If you had insurance through the Healthcare Marketplace, after entering your 1095-A, check the box that you were self employed and answer the followup questions.  Do NOT enter it elsewhere.

If you were a Partner in a Partnership or a shareholder in a S-corporation (with non-Marketplace insurance), in the section that you enter your K-1, check the box that says you personally paid for health insurance, and answer the followup questions.
