Can a state you no longer reside in collect taxes when an RSU vests in later years.
Most states take the position that "compensation" income created by vesting or exercise of options is income in the state you lived in when you received the grant. It sure sounds like Illinois has taken that position. This will happen in 2018 and 2019 also.

Can a state you no longer reside in collect taxes when an RSU vests in later years.
You should file an Illinois Non-Resident Return requesting a refund of the withheld taxes. You may also wish to see if your former employer will withhold Arizona taxes on your behalf - or no state taxes at all, if they can't withhold Arizona taxes for you.
