1. You do not enter the forms that belong to your son. If the form has his SSN, he owns the form. Enter your 1099-Q and the scholarship offset. 2. Yes, you will remove forms not related to your return. 3. Entering the Q and then the expenses in the 1098-T area is the correct method. You must be sure to mark Scholarship Exception. The 1098-T had to include the scholarship income. Your method also worked.   The IRS wants the correct taxable income and you achieved it. Well done!

If you were working on a return in TurboTax Desktop, just click on the TurboTax icon, and you should see your return in a tile.  Click Continue to keep working.  You can also look in Documents >TurboTax where the program saves back-up files for you (with a 'tilde' sign).  Double-click that file and it will open in 2025 program.   The Error 190 instructions say to 'Start a New Return' and go to State Taxes to download a state.  If you see a spinning circle, TurboTax is looking for a file to transfer, choose 'Continue without transferring'.     If this doesn't resolve your issue, you may need to uninstall and reinstall TurboTax.  You can Sign In to your Intuit account, go to Products > Downloads to download a fresh copy.    @ramlerlinda

"   Never paid a dime for any of those. 🤓  In addition, why keep sending private data to all these companies, so they could get you hooked on more stuff.  Still using Office 2007 suit, and still happy like a clown. 🤡  PDFgear & PDF24 get me through the days rather easily. 🤗

To see what is causing your return to be rejected and find out how to fix it:   Sign in to your account Select the Fix my return button Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.  What does my rejected return code mean and how do I fix it?   Some returns get rejected when the IRS e-file database indicates that an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is required for the taxpayer or a dependent and if you do not enter it, your electronically filed return will reject.  You will need to get one to file electronically, if you do not get one then you will need to file your return by mail.     If you need to enter one, visit the IRS's Get an IP PIN site, or call the IRS at 1-800-908-4490 to have your IP PIN mailed to you (this can take up to 21 days).  Once you get it to enter it , go to the "Federal Tax" tab, select "Other Tax Situations", and choose the "IP PIN" section.    Once you get it, see the steps below to enter it on your return:   Open your return Go to IP PIN On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes. Select Add and enter your IP PIN in the space provided. Select Continue, then select Done.   @mwvogel

Thanks again Dianne. One more question: in Smart Check to fix errors. The program asked “Check This Entry” to input the number of days rented. I input 365 in the box and hit continue button. Somehow the program doesn’t remember this fix.  anyway I will follow your instructions to send the file to you by taking out our personal information.

Q. Can i receive american opportunity credit (AOC) it my parents received it years prior? A. No. Or more accurately, probably not.  You can claim it only if they claimed it less than 4 times before.  Then, you only claim it for the the numbers of times, less than 4, that they didn't.  That is, the AOC can only be claimed 4 times total ,  on your education, regardless of whether it is by the parent or the student.

Tax liability is the total tax you owe for the whole year.   (Line 24 of Form 1040).  It represents the total tax obligation after applying deductions and non-refundable credits, but before subtracting payments made via withholding or estimated payments.    If you have a tax due of less than $500, you meet exception #1.   You must make estimated tax payments if you expect to owe at least $500 ($250 if married/registered domestic partner (RDP) filing separately) in tax for 2025. If in the prior year your tax liability, less any credits for the prior year, was less than $500 ($250 for married/RDP filing separately) you are not subject to the underpayment of estimated tax penalty.   CA 5805 Instructions

Unfortunately, I've already submitted my return and so I don't see an option to transmit to you.

It helps to always think of "Backdoor Roth" as just a snazzy nickname for the 2 separate transactions which could be different amounts or occur in different tax years - (1) the non-deductible contribution which can be backdated to prior tax year (and is limited by the IRS); (2) a Roth conversion which is reported in calendar year it occurs (and is only limited by the balance in your Trad IRA).   Next year when you get a 1099-R you would enter that according to the backdoor instructions (step 2) and identify it as a Roth conversion and you will be asked to confirm the $7000 basis carryover from 2025 which will be reflected on Line 2 of Form 8606 and applied against the conversion to result in no tax.   If you do another contribution for 2026 you would enter that in the IRA section also.  Form 8606 will keep track of how much you contributed, how much you converted (from 1099-R), what is taxable if anything, and what basis to carryover.  It's worth becoming familiar with Form 8606 to help check the outcome of the process in your return.
You'll enter your AGI on the last screen just before transmitting your return.   @CoachCooley
I'm using the same account and I started by importing last year's return. No luck. I can't find the list of charities. Sure would be a bit help to work from.

Thank you, but I'm using Turbo Tax Premier not Online.  Somehow during the Smart check I was trying to fix the error and accidentally stopped the Smart check and the Federal income section is done. But I know the error wasn't fixed. I can see this error in the form format schedule E worksheet. Where can I go back I redo what you suggested with Turbo Tax Premier?
