question is how to modify a return that was printed for mail but has not been submitted to the IRS. Workarounds often stated seems to be click 'add a state'. However, I have the same issue, and the suggested workaround is not acceptable and the end result does not work for us. Using “Add a new state” pushes the return into an amended return workflow. That is not what is needed here. The return has not actually been filed with the IRS. It was only printed, and users need to be able to edit the original return and generate a corrected PDF before mailing. That distinction matters: Printed is not filed A TurboTax status of “filed” is not the same as actual IRS submission If nothing has been mailed or e-filed, users should be able to revise the original return without creating a 1040-X If Intuit prevents edits to an original return that has not actually been submitted, that is a significant product problem. What is needed is simple: allow users to reopen and edit the original return until it has actually been filed, and generate a new PDF without triggering an amendment.

smags You should not have 5329 in your return, particular with numbers on line 1 and 2 for early withdraw. It is not early withdraw, it is excess contribution and excess is going to line 23 on Form 5329. And form 5329 do not provide a way to indicate that excess contributions are withdrawn on time since IRS treat timely withdrawn contributions as they were never made. Read instructions to form 5329 to Line 23. IRS requirements to excess contributions are clearly stated on Form 8606 instructions page 7 –“Return of IRA Contribution”. IRS required just adding two numbers on lines 4a and 4b of 1040 and a statement. That is it. This whole workaround nightmare is because TT will not let you add numbers to 4a and 4b on 1040.

Does a Florida community property trust require a 1041 filing or do we continue to report our income on the standard 1040 form? If 1041 is needed, which TurboTax program is recommended? Thanks!

The IRS received the tax return so there is no need to file the same tax return again. You could not e-file another return anyway since the original has already been e-filed.
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

To correctly report your RMD and delete the doubled entries, follow these steps:
First, delete the Form 1099-R and also delete any Form 5329:
In TurboTax Desktop, select the form then click Delete Form at the bottom left
In TurboTax Online, on the left panel, click on the down arrow to open more options
You may have to scroll down a little to view the Tools option below
Click on Tools, then Delete a form (Usually the third option down)
Scroll down to delete Form 1099-R and then delete Form 5329-T (and 5329-S, if applicable)
Next, if one of your 1099-Rs covers your entire RMD, you can use it to satisfy reporting your full RMD as follows:
Return to Income, then click the down arrow to the right of Retirement Plans and Social Security
Select IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) in the Federal Income section
Click on +Add a 1099-R and input the 1099-R from which you took your entire RMD
Click Continue as you complete the interview entries
"Let's get more information about your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)", enter the amount of your RMD (no extras) that was due by December 31, 2025, Continue
On the next screen, "How much of this distribution applied to your December 31, 2025 RMD?", enter your RMD (no extras) that you entered in the prior screen, Continue
When you reach, "Review your 1099-R summary, Continue (not the pencil)
When you reach, "Let's go over any required minimum distributions (RMD)", Continue (not the pencil)
If one of your Form 1099-R distributions covers all RMDs for 2025, you can enter the full amount of the RMDs (no extras) in the first Form 1099-R distribution above and then skip the second Form 1099-R questions about RMD by entering zero at step 4 above and just Continue through the remaining questions.

Since TX was your state, you can leave this blank. As TX has no income tax, adding information to the state boxes may lead to errors while completing your return.

It depends on where the assets were used, such as for a business or a rental. When the asset is sold, traded or converted to personal use, or and most importantly, the asset began being used at 50% or less in your activity.
Inside the asset, you will indicate the situation based on what did take place. TurboTax will assist based on your indicators in the asset.
What is Section 179 Recapture?
Please provide more details and we will be able to assist further.

You will have to amend both the federal and state tax returns to add income from additional W-2's.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 12 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

I efiled my federal return on 3/12/2026 and received Federal Return Accepted email on the same day. After two weeks, the status on IRS website is still 'Not Processed'. Using TT to check the filing status, and it thinks I have not file the return and proceed to the efile option. Should I wait or shoud I file another one? What happened if I file it again? Is it possible that TT efiled my return but IRS never received it? I need some advices before April 15.

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.
For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/

There are various reasons whey you cannot use pay with refund.
Since the pay with refund option has a $40 additional charge and your tax refund is sent to a third party processor for removing the TurboTax account fees thereby adding additional time and possible delay in the refund, it is probably good that you cannot use that option.
Pay the TurboTax fees with a credit card or debit card.

Yes I requested for the TurboTax fees to be taken out the federal refund.
