If your 2022 tax return was completed in TurboTax but never filed, it remains saved in your TurboTax Online account under Your Tax Returns & Documents. You can open, review, and file that return anytime directly from there. Returns not filed by the deadline can still be filed. TurboTax lets you to e-file or print and mail your completed return. Note that if you missed the filing deadline, it's very likely you may owe late-filing penalties or interest, so filing promptly is important.   If you don't see your 2022 return there, it could be in a different account if you have more than one. Make sure you're signed into the correct Intuit account.

The 1098-T can go on both returns, with adjustments (as I described at your other post), when the parent needs to claim the AOTC and the student needs to report taxable income.  Your are the one "filing" the 1098-T.  He is only using it as a tool to enter the scholarship income, in TurboTax. The 1098-T he enters is not sent to the IRS. The 1098-T you enter is not sent to the IRS; TT just uses it to check the  box on form 8863 that says you got one.    Here's a post on the five main points on the  1098-T: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/college-education/discussion/re-what-do-i-do-with-form-1098t/01/3760212#M63114 Note: The 1098-T is only an informational document.  The discussion about making scholarship taxable by shifting  tuition to the AOTC also works for shifting tuition to the 529 (or both in your case).

TurboTax Deluxe includes one free State Download. Since New Hampshire does not require a state return, the software adds it by default, which might cause confusion. To resolve your issue: 1. Do not file or finalize the New Hampshire state return if not required. 2. To get your free state download for your actual filing states, make sure you select or add those states' returns properly under Your State Returns. 3. Removing the default New Hampshire return is tricky, but the free state download applies to the first state you file a return in. 4. If you're unable to get the free download for your other states, try restarting TurboTax and carefully selecting the correct states before entering state income. New Hampshire appears by default but does not count against your free state download.

As noted above, your Roth conversion will be a 2026 transaction reportable on your 2026 tax return, not on your 2025 tax return.  Line 14 of your 2025 Form 8606 will carry forward to line 2 of your 2026 Form 8606.   Regarding the in-kind recharacterization, until you receive the 2026 Form 1099-R it's going to be difficult to know the exact value transferred to accomplish the amount of recharacterization that you requested.  However, for the purpose of preparing your 2025 tax return, it doesn't really matter.  All that really matters for entry into 2025 TurboTax is the amount of contribution that you requested to be recharacterized (the entire contribution, I imagine).  Normally your explanation statement regarding the recharacterization would mention both the amount recharacterized and the amount transferred, but it should be sufficient to simply say that Fidelity calculated and transferred the gain/loss-adjusted amount that needed to be transferred to accomplish the recharacterization.  (I doubt that the IRS will ever read this explanation statement.)   When the code-R 2026 Form 1099-R reporting the recharacterization arrives, you can ignore it.  The explanation statement included with your 2025 tax return takes its place.  If you do enter this Form 1099-R into 2026 TurboTax, 2026 TurboTax will remind you that the recharacterization needed to be reflected on your 2025 tax return (as a traditional IRA contribution).  If you enter this Form 1099-R into 2025 TurboTax, 2025 TurboTax will ignore it.

To file an extension using TurboTax, follow these steps: 1. Open TurboTax and go to the Tools Center through Tax Tools. 2. Select Easy Extension. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete IRS Form 4868 for your federal tax extension. 4. Choose to e-file your extension to get confirmation immediately. 5. If you owe taxes, be sure to estimate and pay them by the April 15 deadline to avoid penalties. 6. For your state extension, follow TurboTax guidance or file your state extension separately if required. An extension extends your filing deadline to October 15, but payment is still due April 15. Keep in mind some states don't require an additional extension as long as you filed one with the IRS.

It depends. TurboTax asks for your total New York 529 contributions to calculate the basis of your account, which determines how much of a withdrawal is subject to tax recapture if the money is used for non-qualified expenses. New York allows a state tax deduction on contributions, so if you take a non-qualified withdrawal, the state seeks to tax the portion that previously received a deduction.    If you did not take any money out of the account this year, or if all your withdrawals were used exclusively for qualified higher education expenses like tuition and room and board, this historical data will not change your tax liability. You can check for your historical contributions on your nysaves.org portal, but if you had no withdrawals, the entry is not required to complete your return accurately.

It depends on whether the qualifications have been met to claim your friend as a dependent.  Since they are a friend and not a relative, they may qualify as a Qualifying Relative.  If you enter their information as part of your return, TurboTax will ask you a series of questions to determine if they can qualify as your dependent.  If they do qualify, you may receive the credit for other dependents as part of your return.   To learn more about the qualifications, see the following TurboTax help article:   Who can I claim as my dependent?

Q. My son would need to enter the 1098-T scholarship amount in the education section on the Deductions and Credits section of turbotax - there is no place to enter it on the income section, correct? A. Correct. This is necessary to get TT to treat it as earned income for the standard  deduction calculation and avoid any tax.    Q. That will probably require him to purchase TT Deluxe rather than using the free version? A. I think so. I'm not up on those rules.  I think TT will quickly tell you so.    You might try this  IRS FREE FILE https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

To enter your overtime in TurboTax Online, follow these steps:   1. Go to the Income section and start or edit your W-2. 2. Enter your W-2 exactly as it appears; if overtime is in Box 14, enter the description and amount, then select Overtime from the category dropdown on the following screen.   If the overtime is not on your W-2, continue through the screens until you reach Let's check for other situations. Check the box for Overtime and select Continue. Enter the total of your qualified overtime. TurboTax will calculate your deduction.   To qualify for the overtime deduction, you must meet these requirements:  You must be a non-exempt employee who is eligible for overtime under federal law (FLSA).  Your filing status cannot be Married Filing Separately.  Your modified adjusted gross income must be below $150,000 or less ($300,000 for joint filers) to be eligible for the maximum deduction, If your income is over $150,000 ($300,000 for joint filers), then the deduction begins to reduce by $100 for each $1,000 of MAGI over the applicable threshold amount. Once your MAGI hits $275,000 ($550,000 for joint filers), the overtime deduction is not available. The pay must be for hours worked over 40 in a single workweek, and only the overtime premium (the extra "half" in time-and-a-half pay) is qualified for the deduction.

Currently, TurboTax Online doesn't offer an option to delete or remove uploaded CSV files after import. If the CSV cannot be properly calculated or processed, it may become stuck, requiring you to start over or manually correct the entries. This is a known limitation in the system and can be frustrating. To resolve issues, you can try to manually delete the related investment or crypto entries by navigating to the specific investment or cryptocurrency section in your return and removing incorrect data.   To manually remove or correct CSV-imported data in TurboTax Online, follow these steps: 1. Go to the Wages & Income section. 2. Find the Investments and Savings area and select Start or Update next to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B, 1099-DA). 3. Review your current investment entries. 4. Select the specific investment or crypto holding you want to remove or edit. 5. Choose the option to Delete or Remove the entry if available. 6. For corrections, edit the details directly within the entry. If there's no delete option for the imported CSV as a whole, removing entries this way clears your data. You may then re-import or enter data again.

"Even though the 1099-Q is going on the student's return, the 1098-T should go on the parent's return, so you can claim the education credit. You can do this because he is your dependent." This is not our situation. I (the parent) and the recipient and the 1099-Q listed me. In another thread I was advised that the 1098-T should go on the STUDENT's return since he would still not have any tax liability at his income leve;. And that would allow me to get a larger AOTC credit on MY return. Is this true?

2020 software isn't available anymore, unless you already purchased it previously.  Here is a link to paper forms: 2020 Form 1040 (PDF)   It is important to file an unfiled return because there is no statute of limitations on an unfiled return.  You can file a past due return anytime, but you only had 3 years from the original due date of 4/15/2021 to claim a refund, if you were due one. Because 4/15/2024 has passed, unfortunately, it is too late to get a refund. See: Claim a refund However, if you owe taxes, filing will stop the accumulation of penalties and interest.

I didn't reinstall it. The installation was the one I installed in 2023 when I did the tax return. My code was good in that year.     Are you saying I cannot use the license code more than 5 times for myself, even on the same machine? If that is the case, why was I asked to input/use the code after an update (not a new install, not a reinstall)? It does not seem reasonable.   Any difference if I installed it on a VirtualBox client, and move it to a new machine later?
