@tonyv19 TT in broken.     In your case, the solution is easy.  Just don't enter the 1099-Q or delete it if you already entered it (click on the "trash can"). The 1099-Q is  only an informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your (or your student's) tax return. The interview is complicated and it's easy to make mistakes. Avoid it if you can and you probably can.  You can just not report the 1099-Q, at all, if your student-beneficiary has sufficient educational expenses, including room & board (even if he lives at home) to cover the distribution. When the box 1 amount on form 1099-Q is fully covered by expenses, TurboTax will enter nothing about the 1099-Q on the actual tax forms. But, it will prepare a 1099-Q worksheet for your records (you don’t need it). You would still have to do the math to see if there were enough expenses left over for you to claim the tuition credit. You also cannot count expenses that were paid by tax free scholarships. References: On form 1099-Q, instructions to the recipient reads: "Nontaxable distributions from CESAs and QTPs are not required to be reported on your income tax return. You must determine the taxability of any distribution."  IRS Pub 970 states: “Generally, distributions are tax free if they aren't more than the beneficiary's AQEE for the year. Don't report tax-free distributions (including qualifying rollovers) on your tax return”. "IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education states: If the entire 1099-Q went to qualified expenses, room and board, tuition, etc; then, you do not need to enter the form."

@12Colleen    Boxes 81, 82 & 83 on the T4 are considered self-employment income, so if you have an amount in one of those, you'll need to fill out the T2125 self-employment form.    You only need to answer basic information, such as business name and address (can be your own), industry code, and fiscal period (Jan 01 to December 31).    You don't need a business number to fill out the T2125.

"No tax on Social Security" was a campaign promise that did not come to pass. There is no change in the taxation of Social Security benefits. Instead there is a new deduction for seniors (65 or older). Unfortunately that doesn't do you any good if you are under 65, even though you are disabled.
C'mon,   No further / additional help?  What am supposed to do?

Go to your Tax profile first, and you'll find a section where you can check RL-1. After doing so, the Québec tax deducted from your Relevé 1 slip (non-resident of Québec) section will appear.        Scroll down to the bottom of the T4 page. You can enter the amount from Box E of your Relevé 1 there. This is the only amount you need to enter if you were a non-resident of Quebec.       Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I am completely disabled as a paraplegic from a spinal cord injury and I am on SSDI income. I thought there was supposed to be no tax on social security per Trump, yet when I enter my amount it adds almost $1,000 to what I owe. Can I just leave that amount off of my income since there is supposed to be no tax on social security?

I've entered non-deductible expenses into the S-Corporation Shareholder Stock and Debt Basis Limitations Worksheet (Box B) for each shareholder, and it shows up properly in Box 8a of Part 1 Shareholder Stock Basis smart worksheet, but it does not flow through to the K-1 to Box 16C for each shareholder.  Is this a known bug in TurboTax Business?  I've tried deleting and recreating the worksheet, with no change in the K-1.  Is there any other way to get this to work?   Thanks Jon

My question is about 1127 NYC Employee-Non-resident Form.   As a NYS resident, NYC Government employee at the NYC Dept of Health, am I taxed on ALL income including capital gains from sale of personal investments, and other jobs outside of NYC (in NY State) unrelated to my job as a NYC government employee?   It seems inappropriate that NYC would want me to pay taxes for investment gains and jobs that are unrelated to my job as a NYC government employee.

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.  You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.  You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.  Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.   The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due  Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected.  You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment  Select your product below and follow the instructions.  Amend TurboTax Online  Amend TurboTax CD/Download

Thank you Catina   It's odd that while (1) 2024 TurboTax Desktop had a an ability to alphabetize a list of charities within the "Step-by-Step" interview (by clicking on the top of the list each time), and while (2) in 2025 TurboTax , the charities listed in the Forms view ARE in alphabetical order, yet the charities list in the Step-by-Step view are not.   I am unable to make the instructions you provided work (I have TurboTax Premium). While I can open the Forms view, I do not see a Schedule A Worksheet. I do see Schedule A, but I am unable to get a table to open.     If I go to item 11 in the worksheet (gifts by cash or check) and click the total, a table does not open. Instead, an add charitable organization window opens, where I can add or select an existing one, but I cannot edit or sort.   I'm also noting that given in 2025 TurboTax Desktop , in Forms view, the charities are in alphabetical order, so I thought that can be a nice workaround to doing things in alphabetical order. However, if in the form I enter the amounts and even review and answer all the Yes No questions and save, if I go back to the Step-by-Step view list, it still shows the charity I just entered data for as Needs Review. This is not that helpful to keep track of what is done and what still needs to be done. And when I do an edit in Step-by-Step to clear the Review needed, it does not show the total dollar amount I entered on the form, so I have to redo that.

Thank you Roger.    Unfortunately, I still cannot e-File.  At least, I cannot e-File the state return, for which I already paid $20. I'm not getting an error on the federal side now. I can mail the state return, I don't really care, but I want my $20 back.
