@colotom  Yeah....for the buttons, you do what I said for the first one. Then when you select the second one, the first button is supposed to disappear.....but it is required to be set set as "Multiple States" in hiding....which is why it needs to be doen forst. It's just that the first button needs to be set to the Multiple States selection first before moving on to the second one.   Thankfully you found a way around it anyhow. ________________________ For 1099-INT forms that have tax-exempt $$ in box 8 from different states...the first button selection is immaterial...as the second button takes precedence.   Thus an inconsistency in their programming that I've complained about to the supposed experts......but the powers that be don't seem to realize it's a problem with their software 1099-DIV form.

With downloaded desktop version of deluxe federal + state, I followed the instructions you provided, however the software is still not presenting both options to select standard or itemized. It simply notes good news that standard deduction has been elected...no other option available. Please advise ASAP!!
Great! I would be here for a week entering all the 1099 info otherwise. Thanks

Having a CA drivers license does not dictate that you have to file a CA tax return.  If you did not live or work in CA you do not have to file a CA tax return.   Did you live in CA for any part of 2025?   If so, you would need to file a part-year CA return for income received while you were a resident of CA.   And...if you have been living in some other state for over a year since leaving CA, you are way past due to get a drivers license in your new state.

Did a 1031 exchange on vacant land, the parcel that was given up closed escrow in 8/21/2024, replacement was identified on 8/23/2024 and I closed on the replacement on 1/16/2025. Funds from the property given up were held by a qualified intermediary in the time between closing on the given up property and closing on the replacement property. I have no relationship with either the buyer of the property given up or the seller of the replacement property, so I clicked "no" on "was this exchange being made with a related party". Now I am getting an error on Form 8824 "Form 8824 should not be completed if the exchange was made in a prior year and was not made with a related party. Verify exchange dates or remove Form 8824". How do I resolve this?
Does the 01 mean from the top or from the bottom?  There are three children oldest is first from the top and proceeds down based on age

You can just enter the total as Other self employment income or as Cash or General income. You don't need to get a 1099MISC, 1099NEC or 1099K. Even if you did you can enter all your income as Cash. Only the total goes to schedule C. You should be entering the income from your own records.

Here is how to do this in TurboTax Online:    Go to the self-employed section Either select the Uber business you have already created or create a new business. Enter information about the business as the interview requests. Once you have confirmed the info about the business looks good, you'll be asked to enter the income from your work.  you can enter the amount from the 1099-K you received, or if you did not receive a 1099-K, you can select other self-employed income to report earning that were below the reporting threshold.

i am a self-employed musician. I played about 100 gigs in 2025 and have about 100 1099-NEC forms that the employers sent to me. TurboTax asks that I input each 1099 information into the program. Is that necessary? Can't I just total up all the 1099 income as a summary page? Does each 1099 get reported on the 1040 that goes to the IRS? Of course I will keep all of the 1099s I received in the event I ever get audited.

Is your "first" dependent by any chance a teenager or student who recently filed their first tax return?   This often happens with kids who file incorrectly and say on their own return that no one else can claim them.   Your remedy for filing is to claim your dependents and file by mail.  Print, sign and date your return in ink, and mail it in.  The IRS will sort out the duplicate use of a dependent's SSN.

after you input the contribution did you get a question whether you want to make this contribution deductible or non-deductible?  I'm guessing TT thinks you want this contribution to be deductible.

It sounds like you are asking about the $6,000 senior deduction. This is an additional deduction, not included with the standard deduction. This additional deduction for seniors is calculated automatically based on the birthday you have entered in your tax return.    Note, this deduction has income limitations.  It begins phasing out at income of $75,000 for a single filer (or $150,000 married) and is completely phased out at income of $175,000 for a single filer (or $250,000 married).   This deduction is located on Schedule 1-A Additional Deductions, Part V. The total additional deductions will be summed and appear on your 1040, line 13b.   You can check this in TurboTax Online by navigating to Tax Tools on the left of your screen, choose Tools, then View Tax Summary. On the left of the screen, select Preview my 1040, and scroll to Schedule 1-A Part V.
