Turns out, TT doesn't charge for the second state again. But it's not what it says in the first dialog for downloading - in it, it says that the second state will cost $45. Fortunately, I found another forum message here that assured that there would be no charge, so I tried to go further, and didn't have to pay. I wish TT just said that in the first dialog box, so as not to confuse people.

Do not enter the child on both returns.
If you are a non-married couple who live together with your child, then only one of you can claim the child(ren) and the one not claiming the child does not enter anything at all on their tax return about the child. The “sharing” of child-related credits you may have heard about is only possible between divorced or never married parents who live apart and share custody and who have a written agreement to share the credits. The child’s SSN can only be entered on one tax return. Any other return with the child’s SSN on it will be rejected. If you are a family, then work out how to share the refund between yourselves.

Hi Hal_Al, I'm just now making these changes. We are filing an amended return for my daughter to show the amounts discussed above. The IRS wants to know the reason for filing an amendment, do I just type in I added 1098T? When entering the information for the 1098T Do I add the $5853 to box 5 and leave box 1 blank? When coming to the end of TurboTax and TurboTax checks her return it says it found an error with the state return (Ohio). It asked for parent name and social security number and how parent was filing their return. At first I was a little confused that it was asking for her information again and I'm unsure if I filled the information in correctly. I printed the amended return and I don't see that information on there anywhere. I deleted the amended return to try and enter the information again to see if it would ask me again but it did not. I'm worried I entered something incorrectly and TurboTax saved it and it will get sent. Why would it ask me that information and then not print? Also, will they be able to figure out what we did if they put our 2 returns together since I entered $4000 in box 1 on my return? Thank you for all your help

I am only trying to print the full Form 568. I can only save or print pages/sides 1-3 and 7. 4-6 only show in forms. It does not matter if I try to save the entire Federal/CA combination, or just CA, or just the specific forms. 4-6 never save as a PDF, and/or never appear as an option to print directly even when selected in the list. But yes, I can see all the pages in the forms section. There is no warning about non-final forms. I am not using any other states I am using Mac Desktop Home & Business. Your system refuses to let me put a token number in this message. It keeps removing it saying I'm trying to add a phone number. I've even spaced it and it still removes it.

TurboTax does not allow an override on Form 1116 Line 3e and this prevents me from efiling my return.

My son and his girlfriend live together but are not married. They have a son together. The TT program will allow me to put their son on both of their tax forms and claim him as a dependent for one and a non-dependent for the other. My question is, is this allowable? All my research has said that only one of them is allowed to claim their son on their tax form and the other has to leave him off. Which is the correct way? Please help!

Yes, you should answer yes.
TurboTax is asking this to track your basis (the after-tax money you might have already paid) and to ensure you aren't double-taxed it when you withdraw it, or to see if you're still within the five-year waiting period for tax-free withdrawals of converted funds. Since you’ve done conversions, clicking "Yes" will trigger the follow-up questions you need to answer.

Your return is being rejected by the IRS.
You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.
Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed. Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.
What is the rejection code or rejection message?
If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2024 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
