would be great hearing from Rick.   There is some minor income on the K1 forms that covers the time between when it got to my brokerage account and when it was sold.   I think I've got that part covered.   I'm just confused on what basis to use both for the 1099-B input as well as the K1 inputs.

The tag below your question indicates that you are using TurboTax Live (TurboTax Experts). If that's true, you should address your questions to a TurboTax Live tax expert. You are paying extra for that service. See the following FAQ for instructions to contact a TurboTax Live tax expert. How do I connect with a tax expert in TurboTax Experts? Even though you are getting a refund, you can have an underpayment if you did not pay enough earlier in the year. It's not just the total amount you paid, but when you paid it.

Foreign Tax Paid is typically reported on Form 1099-DIV Box 6.   Enter Form 1099-DIV under Federal Taxes >> Wages & Income >> Interest & Dividends >> Dividends on From 1099-DIV. Check the box "My form has info in more than just these boxes (this is uncommon)" to reveal the rest of Form 1099-B, including Box 6.   When you are finished entering dividends, be sure to go to Foreign Taxes to see if you qualify for the Foreign Tax Credit. Use the Search box in the TurboTax header to jump to "foreign taxes."

Hello Team,   I installed TurboTax Premier in early April and imported my tax documents from the CRA. Everything was working well, although when I reopened TurboTax to finalize my taxes yesterday, it looks like all of the menus on the left are locked and many of the ribbon menu options are grayed out as well. I'm using the Windows desktop version of the program.   I also tried creating another return to test, and even after finishing the introductory questions I still had the same issue.   Any ideas on what's wrong or how to unlock the software?   Thanks
When you enter Form 1099-R with excess contributions, TurboTax should ask if you withdrew the excess before the filing deadline. If you missed that question, review your 1099-R entries again.

As nonresidents of the US, you would need to file Form 1040NR: U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return, which is not available in TurboTax Online. However, TurboTax has a partnership with Sprintax offering a nonresident tax filing solution to our TurboTax customers.   Visit the TurboTax/Sprintax site for more info or to get started.   Also note: To apply for an ITIN, complete IRS Form W-7, IRS Application for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. Form W-7 requires documentation substantiating foreign/alien status and true identity for each individual.   You can mail the W-7 and documentation to the address in the Form W-7 Instructions. Bring it to your local IRS office, or use an acceptance agent (colleges, financial institutions, or accounting firms that are authorized by the IRS to assist applicants in obtaining ITINs). They'll review the W-7 and documentation before sending it to the IRS.

Yes, you can enter a foreign pension in TurboTax by creating a substitute form 1099-R.    Open your return and go to Retirement Plans. Select the IRA, 401(k), Pension Plans (1099-R). Add another 1099-R. On the next screen, "How do you want to enter your 1099-R?", select I'll type it in myself. Follow the prompts as if you are manually entering Form 1099-R. If your foreign issue does not have an ID number, you can try entering 90-9090909. If errors occur due to this entry, you can enter the pension under Miscellaneous Income.

Is Idaho your non-resident state? If not, complete Massachusetts first.   If Schedule 2K-1 doesn't report Idaho income, the entry on the Idaho return should result in zero flow-through income to that state from your investment. If this is not what you see, restart the Idaho interview and look for a section on income adjustments, business income, etc. Every state is different.   You MA return should reflect the 2K-1, but not Idaho.

If you sold your primary personal residence and you lived in and owned the home for at least two years in the five year period on the date of sale, you do not have to report the sale if your gains are less then the exclusion amounts of $250,000 if filing Single or $500,000 if filing Married Filing Jointly (and both lived in the home for two years).   So if you lived in the home at any time for a least 730 days in the five year period from the date of the sale.   If sold in May 2028 and lived in home for at least 730 days from May 2023 to May 2028 you're good.
