Rejection code F1040-526-04 is an error in the date of birth (DOB) entered for the spouse or second person on a joint return.  It doesn't match IRS records.    Despite matching last year, the IRS database may have outdated information, or a typo was introduced.

For tax purposes, foster parents are considered legal parents when determining whether or not the child is a dependent on your tax return as long as the foster child was placed in your home by the state or an agency approved by the state.   In the TurboTax Online interview area for your foster child, after you select that you are the legal parents, the following screen will allow you to select Foster Child and answer the question as to whether or not the child was placed with you by an authorized placement agency, judgment, or court order.   See this TurboTax article for more information on the rules for claiming dependents on taxes.

No, I am using desktop Turbo Tax Deluxe installed on my laptop. Like I have always done. This year when I answered the question as to whether I had 1099b (downloaded from my stockbroker) TT flashed that to deal with 1099 I need to upgrade. Could be a bug or a change for 2025. Do you know?

Thank you Mary. I don't have pay stubs as the amount is direct deposited to my bank each month. I do have those bank statements that show the direct deposits. But I'll give it to the end of February, and then follow your directions and notify the IRS. Thanks again!

Definitely worth asking.  Yes, that $2000 will reduce the taxable amount of his scholarship.  The "proper way" is to add the 2nd 1098-T to his return (not yours).   TurboTax (TT) should do it correctly.  But, that can get messy and  I have heard some gripes in this forum.    Just adding the $2000 ($10,895) to the first 1098-T  will get you the right result ($6017 of taxable scholarship).   Change only the entry on the student's tax return. For yours, it still $4000 in box 1 and 0 (or blank) in box 5.

You are correct you do not want to enter 2024 1099 information on your 2025 tax return. You are seeing your 2024 Form(s) 1099 likely  because you imported last year’s tax data, and TurboTax carried over old forms into your 2025 return. To fix this, delete the 2024 forms 1099 and manually enter your 2025 forms 1099.  This way, you can ensure that your entries are accurate.    I don't know what type of Form 1099 you are referring to so I am using an "X" in place of,  for instance, the "R" in 1099-R or the INT in 1099-INT.   To do this, you can use these steps to delete your 2024 forms: If you are using TurboTax Online: In your left panel of your TurboTax screen click on "Tax Tools" And then Click on "Tools" Click on "Delete a Form" Scroll through your list of Forms Click the garbage can next to "Form 1099-X" If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can: Click on "Forms" in the upper right of your TurboTax screen to switch to "Forms Mode" In your left panel scroll down and look for "Form 1099-X" In your right panel at the bottom of Form 1099-X, click on "Delete Form" Click on "Yes" to confirm the deletion. You can use these steps to enter your 2025 1099 forms: Click on "Search" at the top right of your TurboTax screen. Type "Form 1099-X" in the search box. Click on the link "Jump to Form 1099-X" This will take you to your entry screens in TurboTax for these forms Continue through your screens and answer all follow-up questions.   Click here for How Do I View and Delete Forms in TurboTax Online   Click here for "How to Delete Forms in TurboTax Desktop. Click here for information on entering a Form 1099-INT.   Click here for " Where do I enter my 1099-R?"     Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.
In the RMD window, I should not have entered anything. How do I remove the entry?

As part of a divorce decree 45+ years ago, the judge ruled that my wife should be paid by direct deposit from her ex-spouse, every month on the 1st of each a certain amount. I am her current spouse for the last 33 years, however in the first part of June, my wife passed away. However she did receive a % of her ex's salary from January 1 until June 1, 2025 as directed as part of the divorce decree. She received her payment amount for June 1, but passed away on June 2, 2025. I've argued, in writing, with the company her ex works for numerous times that I just need some direction to the correct department or point person and contact information as the company has not sent a W2 to my deceased wife for Jan 1 to Jun 1, 2025. They said they don't deal with those types of questions, and basically refused to help direct me to obtain the info. What recourse do I have?

I am using TurboTax 2025 and this is STILL a problem!  The "secret" is to double-click in the textbox and that will bring up the itemized form you can fill out and that total will get entered into the textbox, but it's hard to remember this when you only do it once a year.  TurboTax needs to fix this problem.  It's been a problem for like 5 years in a row.  Hello TurboTax????
