@slowreader , Good God, are you from that time ?  A very good sign. I am not familiar with the exact reporting protocols for   Charles Schwab, but  generally  the  form 1099-DIV  Box 1 would include all dividends,  The later pages only break down that data point in to its components.  I would also expect that Box8 of you 1099-DIV should show the total Foreign taxes  paid and the latter pages provide the details. Perhaps you should consider  calling your  broker  at this reputable firm and confirm that this is so .   Does this help ?

If you transferred your $7,500 EV credit to the dealer at the point of sale, you are not eligible to claim the credit again on your tax return, meaning it will not reduce your tax liability or increase your refund. You must still file Form 8936 and Schedule A to reconcile the transfer. You should show $0 on Line 13 of Form 8936.   You may qualify for the Car Loan Interest Deduction, however, so you may want to step through the interview in the Deduction section.   @Linda P

I am having the same problem, but when I go through EasyStep, it doesn't ask me if I'm covered by a retirement program at work. Switching over to the worksheet view of the "IRA Contributions Worksheet," line 10 is checked and not editable, indicating that TurboTax thinks that I'm covered by a retirement plan at work.   Personal details: I was laid off by my employer in December, 2024, rolled over my 401(k) to an IRA in January, 2025, had W-2 severance payments in Q1 2025, and started company pension income in 2025. My spouse hasn't worked in years and the same box is checked. Our return is "Married Filing Jointly."   I am using TurboTax Home & Business 2025 running on Mac desktop.   Thank you.

Sorry, that wasn't what I was asking.  One requirement to file Form 8990 is to have EBIE Line 13 Code K.  I was asking if any Line 20 Code items also trigger the necessity of filing Form 8990, e.g. 20AE- Excess taxable income, or 20 AF-Excess BIE, etc.  or any others which require Form 8990 to be filed.  I know that 8990 must be filed outside Turbo Tax.

Hi,   Regarding Form 8283:  Is it acceptable by the IRS to use the word “Various” for Section A, Column g (“Donor’s Cost or Adjusted Basis) if I donated 155 non-cash items (Clothing and Household Goods) to Goodwill on a single day that are valued at $60 or less for each item, with a total FMV of $1,015?    Can I also use “Various” for Column e too (“Date Acquired”) since all items were acquired at different times?   Note:  When I’ve used It’s Deductible in past tax years (with same type of situation) Turbo Tax always left columns e, f, and g blank for some reason but I’m not sure if that was the correct thing to do.   Thanks for your help.

I have a 1099-R from a legal settlement, not directly from my retirement accounts. When I enter the 1099 for an amended return, TurboTax calculates a $600+ penalty for early withdrawal. That doesn't seem correct. How should I enter this 1099? FYI: Box 7 = 1 State and Federal taxes withheld. IRA/SEP/SIMPLE = not checked   @1099-R  @settlement @erisa   Thanks! Paul
No. Political contributions are not tax deductible.   Please read this TurboTax article for more information.
Not deductible, never have been

I had a 1099-NEC and a 1099-MISC on my return this year. When TurboTax listed the income types for both of these on line Z of Schedule 1, it listed the Income Type for my 1099-NEC as "Settlement Income from 1099-MISC". Also, it listed the Income Type for my 1099-MISC as "Other Income from box 3 of 1099-MISC".   The 1099-MISC should be "Settlement Income from box 3 of 1099-MISC" and the 1099-NEC should be "Other Income from box 1 of 1099-NEC".     The first line, with the amount of $1,554, is from a 1099-MISC that is from a Class Action Lawsuit settlement.  The income amount is listed in Box 3 of the form and identified as Other Income, not from back wages.   The second line, with the amount of $1,454, is from a 1099-NEC.  The income amount is listed in Box 1 of the form.  It is from the fair market value of items received from Best Buy TIN and/or Amazon Vine for posting reviews on their website.  This should not be identified as "Settlement Income".

I believe you mean you rented a house and collected a security deposit which you later returned to your tenant. If so it is not deductible, as it should not have been put into income in the first place. You just hold that money until you give it back to the tenant, with no entry on your tax return. If you did not return the income, you would put it in rental income.

@beudosie  Are you a US person ( citizen/GreenCard ) having a Foreign ( Zambia ) tax home ?   Is your business entity a local registered entity ?  If  both are true , then you  need to do two things : (a) File a Schedule-C  reporting your income, expenses etc. ---   See here -->         2025 Schedule C (Form 1040)         Publication 334 (2025), Tax Guide for Small Business | Internal Revenue Service (b)   File a Form 2555 for  excluding your "self-employment" income from US taxes   ( FEIE ) --->          Foreign earned income exclusion | Internal Revenue Service   One more item to note  -- a US person is required to participate in Social Security and Medicare   tax contribution -- generally  15.3%  on about 92% of your net income  from Schedule-C.     I do not see that Zambia  as one of the countries with a Totalization agreement with US Social Security.  Thus you are liable for this  Social Security Tax -- you use  Schedule-SE for this.   Is there more I can do for you ?
