You will report your foreign pension in TurboTax by creating substitute 1099-Rs (Form 4852).  Complete a Form 1099-R as if you received the correct form. Enter as much info about the payer as you can, including name, address, and the amounts for 2025. Then complete the info for the substitute form.  Enter the foreign pension gross amount in USD in Box 1 and taxable amount in Box 2a, in Box 7 use Code 7 for normal distribution, use 99-0999999 for the EIN.     Follow the steps below: Open your return Select Wages & Income Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security Select Start by IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) Choose to add a 1099-R Select Enter a different way and Type it in myself or Select Financial Institution or other provider and Continue (This depends on if it’s the first time that you entered retirement income or if you have already gone through entering retirement) Select the down arrow at Address Type and select Foreign Address Enter your information as instructed above.  Check the box I need to prepare a substitute 1099-R on the screen “Do any of these situations apply to you?”  TurboTax will guide you through creating Form 4852 for the substitute 1099-R. Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing or the timing when the IRS/State releases your refund.    The IRS states that most federal tax refunds are issued within 21 days of acceptance, however, some may take longer if they require additional review. Also, by law, the IRS cannot issue EITC or ACTC refunds before mid-February. This applies to your entire refund, not just the portion related to those specific credits.   Here are a few FAQs to help you track your refund: When will I get my federal tax refund? AFAIK, the 1099-R income is handled like any other non-dividend/non-capital-gains income, so you probably can use it. But reporting on line z works for me.   BTW, I was audited once for some other deductions I took - IRS wanted documentation. It was a fairly painless experience, except for the shock of getting the "you are being audited" letter. I don't expect to be audited for my pensions - after all, I'm reporting more income than is on the SSA-1099s.

I am unable to recreate issue you are describing/showing.   Does your Colorado return show an underpayment penalty?  If so I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:   TurboTax Online:   Sign into your online account. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.” This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.   TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:   Open your return. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” * This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us. Please provide the Token Number  (including the dash) that was generated in the response.   *(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)

Cantina, I tried that but the additional supporting documentation options only appeared under the current 2025 calendar year.    I'll try it again but I couldn't figure out how to get the 2024 calendar year to show the additional supporting documentation options.    Some feedback for you to give to the developers: they should make it a lot easier to get to Tax Tools (that option does not automatically appear on the left side of my online screen) and easier to get to this additional supporting documentation option without having to click "add a state" (which I'm sure you would agree is not an intuitive thing to do).

There needs to be some level of accountability from turbo tax they should have never allowed us to send our return if the software was not updated people rely on these funds and any type of delay can cause people additional hardship. At least a text or email stating the situation and some type of update. 
If he got a W2 he has to file his own return for it.  They don't have to file if they only have W2 income under 15,750 (2025) but can file to get back any withholding taken out in boxes 2 or 17. But ... See more...
If he got a W2 he has to file his own return for it.  They don't have to file if they only have W2 income under 15,750 (2025) but can file to get back any withholding taken out in boxes 2 or 17. But you don't get boxes 4 or 6 back. Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

So, I *think* what you do is enter the "taxable by the IRS" on the "social security benefits worksheet" (this presumes that the 85% taxable rule applies, per the tax treaty). For the other income, you could either do it as "other income" (line z) or make a 1099-R. I recall trying the 1099-R but had some trouble; I can't recall what the problem was ... it might be nothing more than fiddling with the foreign tax credit worksheet, which you'd have to do anyway. Don't forget to include both your pensions as foreign sourced on the 1116 Comp Wks, to get the maximum tax credit.   BTW, at least in my case, the tax treaty was pretty easy to read and I only needed to look at a few paragraphs.

What is the status of your tax return?    How do I check my e-file status?   If your return was rejected for not having Form 8962, see this article >  How do I fix e-file reject F8962-070?   If you or anyone on your return had Health Insurance Marketplace coverage at any point in 2025, wait until you have your Form 1095-A  to file your tax return.  Filing without it will result in a rejection from the IRS.  You should receive the form by mid-February if you purchased health insurance through the government.       First, find your 1095-A form. If you don’t have it, download it from HealthCare.gov, irs.gov, or your state's Marketplace.    Once you have your form, use the link above to go back to the Obamacare section and enter the form.

On SBTPG's customer support site, they have a dedicated page titled "Process for returned refunds."   Here is the Link. The Exact Quote: "If your refund(s) cannot be delivered for any reason, a $30 Return Item Fee will be charged for the additional processing required and additional attempts to deliver the refund(s)."   The webpage also explicitly points out where this fee was legally agreed to during your tax filing process. It states: "Please refer to the Truth in Savings Disclosure section of the Agreement for more information on fees." When you clicked "Agree" to the "Pay With My Refund" terms inside TurboTax, you were digitally signing that specific Truth in Savings Disclosure with SBTPG, which legally authorized them to deduct the $30 from your paper check when the direct deposit bounced.   If you want to view the actual signed agreement from your return, you can log into your taxpayer portal at taxpayer.sbtpg.com or call their automated customer service line at 1-877-908-7228 to request a copy.

Online version: Delete the form/ worksheet- if possible, see How to Delete   Log out of your return and try one or more of the following: Don't use Internet Explorer. Clear cache and cookies, Sign in using a different browser. Sign in using a different device. Log back into your return. Enter the information again.  Desktop version:  Delete the form Save your return while closing the program. Update the program Open Enter the information again.
I finished review and sign on my info and they are accepted. but there is no continue button to click.
