You are correct.  Select NO for making money in another state in regards to the pension payment.

Q. Is there a way for him to get AOTC? A. Yes, because you are not claiming him, as a dependent, and he has a tax liability. *   Entering it in TT is  complicated.  That $30K stipend on a 1099-Misc sounds familiar. Did we talk about that on another thread?  How/where did you decide to enter the stipend income?  It may affect how we enter everything.   Q. I assume TT will use 1099-Q to cover that $4000 instead of assigning it to AOTC? A. No. $4000 will be allocated to the AOTC, by making $17,000 of the scholarship taxable. $25K of tuition + $2K books/computer - $23K paid by tax free scholarship = $4K that can be allocated to AOTC.  When asked how much of the scholarship was used for R&B, enter $17,000 (unless you also entered the stipend as scholarship)**.  Enter the 1099-Q before you enter the 1098-T.  Enter the 1098-T exactly as received.    *There is a provision that allows your student-dependent to claim a federal tuition credit. For most people, it seldom works out because a full time student, under age 24, is only eligible for the refundable portion of the American Opportunity Credit (AOTC) if he/she supports himself by working.   If the student actually has a tax liability, there is a provision to allow him to claim a non-refundable tuition credit. But then the parent must forgo claiming the student as a dependent, and the $500 other dependent credit.  The student must still indicate that he can be claimed as a dependent, on his return. This is worth up to $2500 (AOTC shifts to all non refundable),   **When asked if any of the scholarship was used for room and board, answer yes. Then enter the amount you want to be taxable ($17K in your case), in the pop up box. R&B are not "qualified educational  expenses".  So, this is how you tell TT that it is taxable. Note the wording at that screen “or other expenses”. You didn’t have to literally use the scholarship for R&B.  This will put it on line 8r of Schedule 1.  This should not affect TT using the actual $12K of R&B for the 1099-Q. But, you do need to verify that happens.

Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)     See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -   CURRENT YEAR https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk   Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return
I converted $50,000 from my IRA to my ROTH IRA. I had $10,000 withheld in Federal taxes. Do I enter $50,000 or $40,000 when I enter the conversion as part of my 1099R?

If you are filing as Married Filing Separately you are not eligible for the deduction.  If you are Single and your AGI is over $150,000 or Married Filing Jointly and your AGI is over $250,000 you are not eligible for the deduction.   If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.   Standard deductions for 2025 Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older   New Bonus Standard Deduction (OBBB): An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older. @MarilynG1 with due respect - this has nothing to do with resolving the built-in, deliberate behavior of Turbotax software. I have the latest [= couple of days ago] TT desktop premier update and its nonsensical overwriting of previous data imports is still here. Let us all understand and admit the simple truth: TT engineers have to change this code segment. No external sequence of steps will help. I say this with some understanding of how software  [any software] works, having decades of software engineering background.   People have suggested all kind of attempts, to no avail. Some methods being actually humorous, for example: (*) close and restart TT; (*) log in, then log out of the financial institution web site, repeat 3 times; (*) shut down your computer and restart it then try again; (*) make sure you have the latest TT update; (*) after a first import of financial data, DO NOT import again, change your data manually [duh... then what is the point?].   For grins, other ideas are just as humorous and just as ineffective: (*) stare intently at the TT import screen, close your eyes and say your morning prayer; (*) perform a rain dance in your kitchen; (*) meditate in a corner for an hour then try to import again; (*) and my favorite - pound the keyboard forcefully, let my cat sniff and scare the mouse and look at the TT screen while singing the National Anthem.      All these can bring you some emotional support and relieve some frustration but the TT built-in behaviour cares not at all.   Smile and have a blessed day.

As stated on the IRS website, it can take up to 5 days before the direct deposit is available in your bank account.   However, did you request to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund?  If so, this will take additional time before the tax refund is deposited into your bank account.
