It depends. Although the final modification was not completed until 2023, and if there was a change to the alimony amount even though it was not yet complete, the tax law indicates you can follow the rules of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). You can review the tax rules as they relate specifically to your situation.
Can I deduct alimony paid? -- This is specifically for the payer of the alimony, but for your review.
Do I need to report alimony I received from a former spouse?
This statement seems to indicate the possibility of tax law taking precedence. 'If the fathers alimony tax deduction should be disqualified, then either party may seek to modify the alimony the Father is obligated to pay to the Mother'.
Legal advice must come from your legal counsel however you can read the information provided to decide if any modification was made after 2018. If so, I have provided the steps to amend your 2022 tax return should you need them. The due date for any refund will be April 15th and I would advise earlier and keep a record of mailing the return such as a receipt or reference number.
Follow the instructions in the link below to obtain the necessary TurboTax Desktop products (2024 and 2023, 2022).
The amendment can be completed using the steps below and if necessary you can use the IRS transcript for your original 2023 or 2024 or 2022 tax return.
How do I amend a tax return for a prior year?

Is there a way to report this as a TurboTax bug so it can be fixed? Transfer Return from 2024 to 2025 has a bug that includes tax exempt dividends with the 1099-INT value.

If you haven't gotten it to work yet, I just figured it out! I had to go review my direct deposit information, then it re-prompted. Good luck!

Correct, not income. This is technically termed an "in-kind distribution". It is not taxable and actually does not need to be reported on a 1041 since it's corpus (principal) of the estate. You would take the estate's basis (normally the FMV on the date of death).

since all sales were reported with cost basis, when I enter them usiing the step by step with just the summary gain/loss it produces a sch D with details in the exception smart worksheet and then line 1b is completed. It should not complete the worksheet and just enter the total of items reportable in category A (no adjustment to basis and all reported to IRS) on line 1A and 8a in Parts 1 and 2 respectively. How can this be corrected? It also generated an 8949 which should not be filed and I am unable to delete it.

Had this same problem, and yes customer service was of no help. Here's how I fixed it without uninstalling Bitdefender. Now I can access my tax return without having to reactivate. 1) Disconnect Bitdefender VPN 2) Turn off Bitdefender Shield (under Antivirus, Advanced) 3) Turn off Online Threat Prevention (all 6 settings) 4) Turn off Firewall 5) Turn off Advanced Threat Defense (under settings) 6) Turn off Cryptomining Protection 7) New step needed today (2/22/2026) . . . once all Bitdefender protections are temporarily deactivated, I also had to turn off Windows Defender Firewall to open my return. Essentially, you're rendering Bitdefender and Windows Defender Firewall completely inactive. By the way, you can turn all of this back on after you open Turbo Tax and everything works, i.e., updates, online assistance, importing 1099-DIV, etc. It appears that Turbo Tax is using some crazy ip port/protocol blocked both by Bitdefender and Windows Defender Firewall to complete the activation process. Come on Intuit, certainly you can develop software that's compatible with Antivirus protection!

I've deleted the Candian Retirement Summary screen multiple times, hit Back and gone to another area within Turbo Tax. Then, when i go back to the Social Security section and select Update, I get the living abroad questions, select Continue and it goes directly back to the Income Summary screen. If I go to Retirement Plans and Social Security section and select Visit All, I get the living abroad screen and when I select Continue, I get the Canadian pension information screeen asking for the Custodian name.

The school includes all tuition paid in box 1 of the 1098-T, whether paid by loans, scholarships or out of pocket by the parents.
If you believe they made a mistake and did not include money you paid (that's unlikely), then yes, you'll need to make some manual adjustments and maybe manual calculations for the taxable amount of scholarship.

Since the IRS assumes a zero basis means that you will owe taxes on the entire sale price, I would suggest looking into the real number and making an adjustment in TurboTax, if applicable, rather than inputting a zero.
There are several ways to look into this further. For example, you can:
Look for a Supplemental Statement/Information document for that account
Locate your trade confirmations, or monthly statements
Account for Exercises (premium you paid is added to basis) and Assignments (premium you received is subtracted from cost of stock)
Check for Wash Sales in your Form 1099-B
If you need to make an adjusting entry for your Form 1099-B, scroll down below Box 1e - Cost or other basis. There, you will find the, "The cost basis is incorrect or missing on my 1099-B".
Additionally, if your Form 1099-B has data included in boxes not visible on the screen, check the, "I have other boxes on my 1099-B to enter", which will open more boxes.
