The QMID code is supplied by the manufacturer of the windows.  It should be on documentation that they gave you to indicate that the windows you had installed would qualify for a Residential Energy Credit.  If you no longer have this documentation or can't locate it, you should contact the manufacturer to get the information that you need in order to claim the Residential Energy Credit for your windows.

I'm helping my son with his taxes, and I ran into an issue.  He is young and lives in an apartment, so his taxes are generally pretty simple.  An acquaintance of his asked him to help out at his business for a few hours one day.  His friend's business is building custom computers for gaming.  He paid my son $100.  The income was reported on a 1099-NEC.  My son had no involvement in this business other than the 1/2 day he spent helping the guy catch up.    I'm a little unsure of how to fill out the Form C.   In the "Name of Proprietor", TT currently has my son's name and next to it, my son's social security number.  Is this correct, or should it be the guy who paid him and that person's SS#?  Or would it be the business name and business TIN?  Is this block intended for the person who received income, or the person who paid him?   For "A", I put "building computers".  For "B", I entered code 334110.  I got this from the IRS website.   For "C", I put the Business Name   For "D", do I put the Payer's TIN?   For "F", Accounting method.  I put Cash, since I assume this is asking how my son was paid.

2025 amended tax returns should already be available, according to the Intuit forms availability page.   Before amending make sure that:   You wait until your return has been accepted (or mailed if paper-filing). Use the same Intuit Account you used to file your original return. Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending. The refund calculator will start ‌at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due. Any changes you make to amend your federal return will automatically be transferred over to your state return. See the following links on how to amend your tax return:   How do I amend my federal tax return for this year? How do I amend my federal tax return for a prior year?

@brighid-bauer    If you contributed to a retirement plan at work......like a 401k.......then you may be eligible for the Retirement Savings tax Credit. BUT Sometimes the credit is so small it doesn't pay for the required upgrade to the pay-for-it software.   To get rid of the credit to remain in the Free version, you would go to the Personal Infor page to edit the information about yourself, and indicate you were a student during 2025  (even if you were not)....that eliminates the Credit..

You should not have "0" or blank in Part III, Column B for any month that someone in your household had coverage under a Marketplace plan.  You need an SLCSP premium every month that you had coverage.    If this is the case on your form. you can use the government's tax tool to get the premium for your second lowest cost Silver plan. Failure to do this will result in a wrong calculation of the premium tax credit. What is the Premium Tax Credit (PTC) and What is Tax Form 8962? Once you have your premium amounts, make sure that your entries for Form 1095-A are correct, that you marked all the correct boxes in TurboTax. To go back through your entries:   Open or continue your return. Navigate to the 1095-A section: TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to 1095-A. TurboTax Desktop: Search for 1095-a, then select the Jump to link.   @Tori9188

Thank you I reviewed your token. You do not have any taxable compensation to make Roth IRA contributions. Retirement income, interest, and dividends are not Compensation for Purposes of an IRA.   You will need to remove the excess contribution plus earnings by the due date to avoid paying the 6% penalty. Please request the return of excess contribution plus earnings with your financial institution.   If you withdraw the excess contribution plus earnings by the due date then you can delete the Roth IRA contribution in the IRA contribution interview:   Click on "Search" on the top right and type “IRA contributions” Click on “Jump to IRA contributions" Uncheck “Roth IRA” and confirm deletion      If you made an excess contribution in 2025 and withdrew the 2025 excess Roth IRA contribution plus earnings in 2026 before the due date, then you will get a 2026 Form 1099-R in 2027 with codes P and J. This 1099-R will have to be included on your 2025 tax return and you have two options:   You can wait until you receive the 2026 Form 1099-R in 2027 and amend your 2025 return or You can report it now in your 2025 return and ignore the 1099-R when it comes unless there is Box 4 Federal Tax withholding and/or Box 14 State withholding. Then you must enter the 2026 Form 1099-R into the 2026 tax return since the withholdings are reported in the year that the tax was withheld. The 2026 code P will not add anything to your income in the 2026 tax return but the withholdings will be applied to 2026.   To enter a 2026 Form 1099-R in your 2025 return please follow the steps below: Login to your TurboTax Account  Click on the "Search" on the top right and type “1099-R”  Click on “Jump to 1099-R” Answer "Yes" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2025?" Select "I'll type it in myself" Box 1 enter total distribution (contribution plus earning) Box 2a enter the earnings Box 7 enter J and P Click "Continue" On "Is the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box on this 1099-R checked?" screen answer "No, the box is blank"? On the "Which year on Form 1099-R" screen say that this is a 2026 Form 1099-R. Click "Continue" after all 1099-R are entered and answer all the questions. Continue until "Tell us which person may have qualified for a penalty exception" screen and select the edit/pencil symbol.  On the “These situations may lower your tax bill” screen enter the amount of earnings under "Corrective distributions made before the due date of the return".   Please be aware, code P will say in the drop-down menu "Return of contribution taxable in 2024" but you can ignore that since the follow-up question will tell TurboTax that it will be taxable in 2025.   @jnjmt
Are these pension payments?  If so, then the total amount received, shown in box 1 of the Form 1099-R, for the year is the RMD.

You can enter the estimated sales tax paid for the car and select Georgia as the state of purchase. You were a Georgia resident when you purchased the out-of-state vehicle. If you're using TurboTax Online, make sure you start by selecting My Info from the menu on the left-hand side, and entering all the personal demographic information needed to fill out your Form 1040 / 1040-SR (including DOB, dependent questions, etc.) before starting on your income and expenses for the year.    Try completing that section first, then returning to the S.S. income menu, and see if that helps with the problem.    Usually, the income interview sections are tailored based on the family data entered in part 1, and may not be able to be completed before then.
