You actually don't have to do that; it's not taxable. If that were the only asset, item, or cash being distributed (with no income or gain), a 1041 wouldn't even be required to be filed. That line is for second-tier distributions. Otherwise, you can enter it in Forms Mode.

You can still file your 2024 return. It is important to file an unfiled return because there is no statute of limitations on an unfiled return. You can file a past due return anytime, but you only have 3 years from the original due date of 4/15/25 to claim a refund, if you are due one. See: Claim a refund
If you have not started a return in TurboTax Online that you can log in and continue to transfer to a Desktop version, you can start by downloading the 2024 software here: File your 2024 taxes

My STR averages 2.1 nights per booking (10 stays, 21 nights total). I materially participated. TurboTax Online is treating it as passive and suspending the loss. I was never asked about average stay length. How do I properly classify this as non-passive? Is this only possible in Desktop?

There was an update to Schedule E recently, if it didn't transfer you may need to enter the information from your 2024 tax return. The only other option would be to clear and start over, if you have not yet paid, to see if the import of information transfers to your 2025 return.
How do I clear and start over?

Ah. Thank you @ChuckA58RI . I didn't see an override selection anywhere. I did try double clicking on that value but that didn't do anything. Just now I tried right clicking on it and Poof! a pop up menu where I could choose Override and I could change it. This is the correct way to fix it. You can still select Estimate instead of W-4 at the beginning of the TurboTax Step-by-step process as you wish and then just fix the worksheet. That Override function is not obvious.

This seems reasonable to use property type as 8. When doing this for a mineral lease (bonus), what would up enter for "Days rented at fair rental value"? This was leased mid-year as a 5 year lease.

@ae_servati Yeah, box 2a should be left blank. On one of the pages AFTER you enter all your CSA-1099-R tax form data, there is one screen that asks if in prior years was the total amount taxable...you need to answer NO, ant then the General and Simplified methods will be presented as choices in the next screen...for you to then enter the appropriate information to calculate what the proper taxable amount really is. Make sure you did NOT select the SEP/SIMPLE/IRA box on the main form.

The depreciation will not link from Form 3115 to your Schedule E. Be sure to get the total accumulated depreciation prior to 2025, and enter that number on your Schedule E under 'Any Miscellaneous Expenses' then use the description F3115 Section 481(a), then add the amount. Your depreciation schedule will maintain the information for each asset for future use.

Apparently there is an option to click "no thanks" but because you put it at the bottom of the screen, you don't necessarily see it. Sure, that's on me, too, but I'm done supporting a business simply looking to squeeze every penny that it can out of me. I will find a better option for 2026. Have fun losing customers over this, I'm sure I am not the first to post something like this!
