He had a good job up until he entered rehab but was let go without cause. He is on EI now and I continue to pay for all his expenses, prescriptions, counselling, etc. My concern is that his income for 2025 will prevent me from claiming him. He made approximately $30 per hour before he was let go from his job in April 2025 and then had a short stint where he worked for a few months at $25 an hour and was let go without cause.

If the state income tax return is showing an incorrect state residency, there is a conflict in My Info or in the W-2's being reported.  Review these entries.   In TurboTax Online, you elect your resident state under My Info down the left side of the screen.  Then select Revisit under Your info.  Correct the Resident state.   Each W-2 will report income reported to a state in box 15 and box 16 of the W-2.  Review each W-2 entry to make sure that the correct state has been reported.
I'm using desktop version Premier for investments.
Go back and review your w-2 entries.   For your Box 14  items, make sure the category is Other (not classified) in TurboTax.   Resubmit your return after updating your box 14 categories.     Box ... See more...

@AOrozco009  wrote: I was also charged at the end to file my state taxes. I purchased two codes and the first went smoothly but at the end of the second it charged me again. Is there a way to get that refunded? I don't know if you are referring to desktop software or Online TurboTax and what all you did with purchasing 2 codes and why, etc.   I also don't know if  "to file my state taxes" means charged to prepare a state return Online with free efiling, or if in the desktop software, a $25 fee to efile a state return (except no fee for NY state. )  Since the title of this thread is about the desktop software from Costco, I assume that was your original purchase.  I don't think Costco sells the online version (but Sams Club does.)   But in any case, it's kind of moot to explain it further here in this user forum since you are going to need to talk to Customer Support anyway.  You can tell them what happened.  They are the only ones who can see your specific account and refund anything should they decide to do so.   If a robot asks your issue, say something like "speak to representative about a billing issue" or perhaps just "billing issue."   Contact TurboTax https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/contact/
You've explained how it should work, it's not working that way.  Medical expenses for the Fed return don't show up at all in the Oregon state return.

The Underpayment Penalty interview under Other Situations you mentioned does not exist in California section. It only exists in Federal Tax section. I went to that section and it only asked about tax liability transferred from 2024 federal tax liability, nothing about last year California tax liability. I check CA Form  5805 part II line 5 and it is empty. It should have 110% of last year CA state tax liability. Like user PF13502 said and did, the penalty went away once I manually entered the correct value. I am also a software developer and I think you should report this as a software bug to your development team. Thanks!   @MonikaK1

If TurboTax won't accept your driver's license Document ID number, you can try clearing your cache and cookies and then going back in and try entering it again.  Click here for How to clear your cache. Click here for How do I delete cookies?   If this does not work, you should be able to continue without entering a document ID Number. Select the option "I do not have a drivers license" if it is available.   For many state returns that ask for a Document ID Number, you can actually leave the document ID (8-10 alphanumeric characters) blank and continue to e-file. Some States may require this number and you will have to print and mail your return instead. If you are in New York, you can find the Document Number (an 8 or 10-character combination of numbers and letters) on the back of your NYS Drivers License in the first line of text after IDUSA. You will not enter IDUSA as part of your document number.  You will enter the numbers or characters after IDUSA.   You can see examples at the New York Department of Motor Vehicles website. Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.

Yeah, the THECB basically just told me to kick rocks and they're not wrong, even though I could simply articulate why a 1099-NEC doesn't apply. Very difficult to get through to the IRS this time of year, especially for general questions. The issue with 1099-NEC, is as teachers - not only would we now have to file as self-employed, pay fed taxes on the forgiven amount, but also pay self-employment tax on the forgiven amount (about 15% tax). So, we're talking easily 40-50% tax on the forgiven amount.

You may be seeing an adjustment on your CA (540) because, although the State of California now fully complies with federal IRA contribution limits, that was not always the case.   If you have IRAs from the years when California was not in compliance with Federal limits (1975-76, 1982-86), an adjustment in your CA (540) means TurboTax is making the adjustment so that you do not pay California tax by subtracting that basis.

Yes, I updated to ensure I had the latest version.
