You will file your tax return without your son as a dependent.  Your son will file married filing jointly with his spouse.  You will both enter the 1095-A information as the health plan being shared.   In TurboTax Online, follow these steps:   Down the left side of the screen, click Federal. Down the left side of the screen, click Deductions & Credits. Scroll down to Medical.  Click the down arrow to the right. Click Start / Revisit to the right of Health Insurance Marketplace (Form 1095-A). At the screen Policy shared with another taxpayer, click Yes to the question Did you share this policy with another taxpayer who is not included in this tax return. At the screen Tell us more about your shared policy, include the taxpayer information. The IRS requires that your percentages are agreed upon by all and that the percentages add up to 100%.   Your Premium Percentage Your SLCSP Percentage, and Your Advanced Payment of PTC Percentage. Taxpayer 1's tax return should reference taxpayer 2.  Taxpayer 2's tax return should reference taxpayer 1.   You will agree on what percentage of those amounts you will claim on your return, and what percentage they will claim on theirs. You can use anything from 0% to 100%, as long it all adds up to 100%.   See also this TurboTax Help.

This thread was started on 1/30/26 and the answer is YES, there's still a problem with the software as of 2/8/26.  The last release date for a TT update was 2/6/26 which I downloaded / installed this AM.  After that, I started my daughter's return as a new return from scratch leveraging last year's return (a pain in the rear to attempt to prove out if any fix has been included in the latest updated) and there is no fix in the Step-by-Step interview.  She's 24 and a grad student so we don't claim her as a dependent.  The Step-by-Step interview is where the problem lies.  It's still absolute trash.  There's no way around calling it anything else right now with regards to execution and how they are handling 529 Plan withdrawals for qualifying education expenses that are NOT included on your 1098-T.  You have to jump to the Form view to address TTs awful execution on the Step-by-Step this year.  For my situation (basically preparing my 24-year-old daughter's return for her), the screen you would need to access in forms is the "Student Information Worksheet".  Once you are in that worksheet, scroll down to Part VI - Education Expenses.  There you can manually input expenses that were paid outside those captured in your 1098-T.  I've done this and it addressed my issues.  There are various education tax credits that you need to keep an eye on as TT is doing some things automatically that you can play with in Part VII.  I'm not experiencing any changes after saving and reopening the file (done several times) as others have mentioned.     Worst TT tax year experience I've ever had and I've been using it a long time.

Thank you, Mindy, for your help.  I do have income from the sale of my NJ home (above the exclusion).  So then I should answer "Yes" to the question if I earned income in another state?  Then how do I fill out the PA Schedule G/L form?  That is not clear to me.   On the PA state section it is asking me if  I have double taxed income.  I said "No" and then it is asking for gross compensation, dividend income, etc.  It would seem that I have to fill this out because the NJ Resident return and the NJ Non-resident return are both asking me to pay taxes.  Do you agree?  I appreciate your time.
If I should be expecting them through two different avenues how do I confirm the mailing address?

@besquare01    Just the stock transactions? Or are the 1099-INT and 1099-DIV missing too? __________________________________ If NOTHING imported...even though the import was "Supposedly" successful:   Doug34 posted the following that worked  (but doesn't work with the Brave browser):   "I initially ran into the same problem described by others here. The Intuit website declares success, but TurboTax doesn't get the document. In my case this was caused by the fact that I denied the Intuit site permission to access my local network. Choose Allow, and you should be fine. If you already denied permission, you will be stuck until you reset this permission. In Chrome on Windows, you can do this by clicking on the View Site Information icon just to the left of the address bar. Turn on Local Network Access and try again. This solved the problem for me."

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.     If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February,  But wait until your return has been processed.

Hi Mary:   I am currently not taking my son as a dependent, because he earned about $6K is AGI and is getting a small refund for the Fed and State.  Do I have to take him as dependent in order to deduct the medical expenses, the rehab and doctors need for his conditions were all out of pocket and not reimbursed by insurance.   Thank you so much for your assistance, Ray Gorman
