In order to take the deduction for the tips, you must report the tips first.  If you received a W-2, with the tips included in box 1, you can enter the tip amount in box 7.  Entering the amount inbox 7 will trigger the rest of the questions after you hit continue when done entering your W-2. If the tips were NOT reported to the IRS, since you are saying that your job is ALL tips, you would need to report, you will still go to the W-2 section but continue through the section to the Let's check for other situations screen.  In this screen select that you have Tips not reported on  the W-2 and that you did not get a W-2.  This will allow you to fill out form 4852 used when you do not get a W-2 but you should have and form 4137 for social security and Medicare tax on tips. Going through this process will also give you the options to deduct the eligible tips.    In order to claim tips, the following must apply: The tips MUST be reported.  If they are not reported on a form to the IRS you cannot claim them for the no tax on tips deduction. If employed they need to be reported on your W-2 or form 4137 If self-employed, they must be reported on a 1099.  If you received them as cash, they are not deductible.  Your income must be below $150,000 if you are single or less than $300,000 if Married Filing Jointly.  Above these amounts, the deduction starts to fade out and is not available at all for those with income over $400,000 for single and $550,000 for Married Filing Jointly. You can not claim this deduction if you are Married Filing Separately You receive tips from an occupation that normally and customarily receives tips  The tips cannot be earned for pornography or prostitution  If all of the above apply, TurboTax will generate a Schedule 1-A for your return.  This amount will be deducted from your AGI. Remember, this is a deduction NOT a credit.  This means it will lower your taxable income, which can lower your tax liability.  You will  NOT see a refund in the amount of the Tips you enter. Tips are reported on Schedule 1-a, Part II with the total amount you are qualified for reported on line 13 of Schedule 1-A.   If you are getting the deduction and have income left to reduce, you will see the change to your income on line 11a of your form 1040.  If your AGI is lower than  your tip deduction, your benefit from the deduction will be limited to your AGI before the deduction.  To see your form 1040 you can switch to forms mode if you are using TurboTax Online or if you are using the online version you can select Tools>>Tax Tools>> Preview my 1040. This is the "learning year" for all the new changes and not all companies are reporting things the same way yet.  Box 7 is not a box that the IRS generally uses for anything.  They are most concerned with box 1 and 2 and then the rest of your forms that are filled out and filed.

The IRS officially opened for the general public yesterday. If you are still seeing a "Pending" status, here is the explanation:   On the official opening day (Jan 26), millions of people hit "Submit" at once. The IRS limits how many returns it pulls from the software providers' servers per hour to prevent their systems from crashing. Your return is likely sitting in the "digital waiting room." It will stay Pending until the IRS computer actually "downloads" it and actually accepts or rejects it.

I filed on the 22nd of January and it’s now the 26th of January and my return hasn’t been accepted or denied just still pending! Why?
Yes, you will need to file two state income tax returns in addition to your federal return. The hobby income will not be reported on your non-resident return, only on your resident return.

Please Clarify the question!   Did you amend your Federal taxes and pay the tax due? The State seems to be the issue. What State do you live in? Did you file an amended State return when you filed the Federal? A state extension will not apply at this late date. What do you mean by State may be inaccurate? Line 13699 (Gross Professional Income) on a Canadian tax return may appear lower than the total you entered if TurboTax has separated your gross income from expenses or if it is excluding HST/GST/QST collected from your gross revenue. It's important to remember that only the revenue earned, not the sales tax collected, should be reported as gross income.   **Net vs. Gross:** Ensure you haven't accidentally entered your net income (revenue minus expenses) in the gross income field.   **Sales Tax (HST/GST):** If you are registered for GST/HST, the gross income reported on Line 13699 should not include the taxes you collected on behalf of the CRA. TurboTax typically asks for the total amount received and then calculates the portion that constitutes actual revenue.   **T4A Slip Auto-population:** If you manually entered your income but also imported a T4A slip (Box 48), TurboTax may have duplicated or incorrectly categorized the income, which could lead to confusion.   **Multiple Sources:** If you have multiple business or professional activities, Line 13699 will only display the total for one T2125 form; the income from additional sources will appear on lines 13700–14300.   To verify the accuracy, check your T2125—Statement of Business or Professional Activities—in the tax return review section to ensure the "Gross sales, commissions, or fees" line aligns with your expectations, excluding any taxes.   Guidelines for Reporting Self-Employment Income Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

@AmyC  I don't see that wording in NJ tax forms (if someone could point out the exact form and line numbers, that would be helpful), but I do understand that the NJ IRA Worksheet C would require a total. I could see this in a scenario where someone with an Inherited IRA knows the deceased's nondeductible contributions (from Form 8606 in their prior tax years) and has to use Worksheet C to figure out their basis in the Inherited IRA.   However, I don't think totaling "all" IRAs is beneficial to the filer, let alone accurate, and should be changed. As you noted, Worksheet C should be done for each account, in which case the total for that field should not be for "all" IRAs, but for that Inherited IRA account alone. IRA distributions are reported by individual account anyway (I have two of them, and this is how they are reported on Federal and state). Further, if my mom made nondeductible IRA contributions but my dad didn't, I don't see why the IRA totals for both of them should be combined as "all," or even added to my own IRAs.   Lastly, it would be helpful if TurboTax skipped Worksheet C entirely (and thus the necessity for a total) in cases where nondeductible contributions were never made or are unknown. In such cases, the full distribution is subject to tax anyway, and a calculation is superfluous (albeit confirmatory). Why is the software asking users to complete a worksheet that is necessary except from a tedious, "show-the-math" requirement that isn't even filed?   "All" is further confusing because it implies I would include my spouses's IRAs as well (otherwise, when does "all" mean "not all" IRAs?). It would be better if it read to the effect of "total for this account" and only came up if the user indicated a known cost basis for documented nondeductible contributions in the prior screens. This whole section could be improved from a UI perspective, honestly. How do I make my concerns known to the developers?

I have the same comment.  I can fill Form 5695 out manually but would rather do it in the interview section.  Turbo Tax says  that "Home Energy Credits" will be "Available soon", but when will that be?  Is it ok to fill form 5695 out manually or should I wait for the software to be available?

What is happening? Why are you not able to do this? It may be that something got stuck. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
