yes, but turbotax chooses to "allow" the major purchase deduction based on the sales tax.    I am denied my major purchase sales tax deduction, even though the tax rate matches the local tax rate.  Contacted TT today, the helper saw that it was correct, saw the error, and could do nothing to fix it. Ok, they were not a programmer - but they also seemed to dismiss it as a me problem rather than submit a ticket for the error.   FIX THIS BUG

I moved from OR to VA 8/7/24, and VA to DC 2/7/25. I thought I cancelled my OHP (Oregon Health Plan health insurance) when I left the state, but it has been going this whole time and I have just cancelled it, and it will officially end 3/31/26. OHP is a program that you don't need to pay for and is provided to Oregon residents based on income. I didn't put it in my 2024 or 2025 report. Is this going to cause issues in the future?

It's a bug.    Turbotax software has a big issue in this spot.   I am denied my major purchase tax deduction because it does not match my local taxes. Except that it does - turbotax returns the tax rate on my major purchase so I can confirm that part is correct AND that it matches my local tax rate.    It doesn't matter if I enter the tax rate and make it the same as my local, or if I leave it blank.     Please correct this. Please stop telling users that nothing is wrong. There is an error in the code.

there is an error in turbotax softare.   I am getting this same issue. I have confirmed that the deduction amount is allowable (by using the option: Enter actual sales tax paid (Requires receipts to support your total. )  I have confirmed that the taxes I enter on the total pretax amount is equal to my local tax rate of 10.35%.   BUT turbotax zeros this tax on major purchase because "it was calculated using a rate that does not match the general rate for your location (0.1035)."  Laughably (except not so funny) it gets the tax rate correct, but the conclusion is wrong.   Help!  I would like to file my taxes and this error needs to be corrected.

For about 6 months in 2025, I lived as a student and worked in WA, but was still a legal resident of MD. My tax return is saying that I owe MD nearly $600 for what I earned in WA. However, I didn't earn that money while physically living in MD. I did everything on-site in WA. Do I still owe MD all that money, even though I didn't reside in the state at the time of earning it. (For clarification, I didn't become a legal resident of WA because I didn't plan to stay there longer for the two years it took me to earn my degree.) Thanks in advance for any help. I hope someone can explain, because this is extremely frustrating.

I had the exact same problem. After reading your suggestion to quit and restart, I tried it and transferred all my data without a hitch. Thanks.

I am getting the exact same error.  I have confirmed that I get this error with simple dummy numbers to match the tax rate. I have also confirmed that I am allowed this deduction, by entering the total amount "as if" I had reciepts for all.   This is an error in the turbotax code.    please please please fix this. I am paying for this service and expect to be able to correctly fill out the forms, indicating that I only have one receipt for the large purchase.
No this bug is not fixed yet.  The 1098T expenses did not cover my entire 529 withdrawal, and I've wasted over an hour trying to find where to enter my computer and book expenses.  Big miss for TT
in the info worksheet, there's a box to check to force the 1116. if this doesn't work, you'll need to contact support.

Hello   Here is some info.   1) Would you please recap my residency for tax purposes and next steps based on the below? 2) Where would I enter estimated tax payments I made to NY state last year?   Yes I had an apartment in NYC for all 2025. I work remotely so I came back to visit NC and was working on the weekdays when I was in NC. I'm originally from NC and never changed my drivers license in NC. I got a state ID for NYC when I went there not a drivers license. I was in NC for only 120 days, less than 183 days. Is there a reason you asked about the drivers license? I did not update the employer on my address change and they have tax locations in both states. So the W2 has NC for all year.

This is indeed an error! I posted this recently. I am not being allowed a major deduction because of some glitch in the code. I get an error that the deduction is not allowed because the rate is not the same as my local area (where I lived all year), but I have confirmed (and reconfirmed) that the rate IS correct and that I AM allowed the deduction.   Please fix this!

Please see this help article for information on how to enter a Form W-2 with Medicaid Waiver / IHSS nontaxable income. The article includes different scenarios due to the fact that different states and agencies prepare the Form W-2 differently for the same type of Medicaid Waiver income.   Did your state determine that part of your Medicaid Waiver income was taxable? I have seen this occur in limited situations such as when the state paid for vacation time. TurboTax can't e-file a return with an amount for state withholding in Box 17, wages in Box 18 of less than the amount of state taxes withheld, and a zero in Box 1.    If necessary in order to e-file, enter amounts in boxes 1 and 18 that are greater or equal to the state taxes withheld in box 17.
Je l'ai fait mais reste que c'est pas normal qu'à ce temps-ci de la saison d'impôt qu'on soit encore à vivre ce genre de bug qui n'est pas encore réglé!!!
Attaboy, now you can do tech support for TurboTax.
