If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.
Standard deductions for 2025
Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older
New Bonus Standard Deduction (OBBB): An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older. This is per eligible individual, meaning a married couple both over 65 could get $12,000. Important: This bonus deduction is temporary, lasting from 2025 through 2028. Income limitations: It phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
The amount is calculated on Schedule 1-A, Part V, with that amount flowing to Form 1040 Line 13b

Excellent, glad it worked out (pls do go through your Form 2210 also to double check the calcs) - there's a been a lot of updates the past weeks and I know at least a couple of bugs they fixed with the import, I would give it a few more weeks to settle down if you can, just too much chaos with all the big bill changes.

I think the problem is that I'm not presented with both numbers and I'm thinking that the upper number would be the Sales tax deduction. The summary page shows the lower number. The wording can be confusing. The larger number I believe is the the state withheld amount and I'm not sure why it would be displayed here.

@user17698099739 That amount from 2024 would be considered a lump sum payment.

I don't know about the online version, but the QMID field in my desktop version of Deluxe is case sensitive: It accepts "L7Q6" but not "l7q6".

YES Report the lump sum (the amount for 2024) as a lump sum in the TurboTax program when it asks about any lump sum payment on your 1099-R. You will report it on your 2025 return, but you do have two options. You can claim all the income and be taxed on all the income on your 2025 tax return at your 2025 tax rate OR You can opt to pay the tax on your 2025 return, BUT AT THE RATE YOU WOULD HAVE PAID ON IT HAD THE INCOME BEEN PROPERLY PAID IN 2024. If you have no tax on your Social Security Payments, it doesn't matter, but if the additional income puts you into a higher tax bracket, you might want to use that second option. Basically you figure the tax you would have been charged on your 2024 return for that income and then pay that dollar amount on your 2025 return. TurboTax can help you determine if this is advantageous for you. Designate the 2024 amount as a lump-sum payment and proceed through the interview. (NOTE- This is NOT the lump-sum Social Security death benefit.) HERE is a link with more information.

Well, you are the first "Expert" to tell me this! I have asked the same question of 3 other Experts who told me 3 different things. One said to report all of the sale on Schedule D, and I quote: "Since you have not used the property in business in the last year and it was converted to personal use 15 years ago, you generally do not need to file Form 4797. Instead, report the sale on Schedule D as a capital gain. Form 4797 is typically for property used in business during the last year." So, needless to say, I am very confused. I'm having serious anxiety about using TT, because I fear being audited 3 years down the road and having to pay penalties and interest. So, I know how to fill out the Schedule D, as I already did that under Less Common Income > Sale of home (gain or loss) and I assume that the Form 4797 will be generated by populating Other Business Situations > Sale of Business Property, correct? And, how will the IRS "understand" that 62.5% of the sale is reported on Schedule D and 37.5% is reported on Form 4797? By the disclosure of the property sale address? One more question: wouldn't my tax be the same as if I reported all of it as Sale of Business Property where I pay normal tax on the depreciation recapture and capital gains tax on the remainder?

Same with Franklin Templeton. Never have for a number of years. However, my 1099R is not just for the QCD they are for the full distribution for the year and include RMD, QCDs, and other distribution as I round up my RMD to the next $100.00. As you enter the 1099R in TT it asks did some/all go to QCD then how much? I have always had Franklin make the check to the charity but send it to my address. Then I send the check with a cover letter to the charity, and the charity sends me a receipt. Otherwise, the charity does not know where to send the receipt as the check only shows "Gifted by and my name" my address is not provided. Also up untill this year Franklin Templeton did not send me any indication that the charity's check had been mailed other than a line item on the quarterly statement.

I think I am using the easy form, it does not give me a tools option. I am 68 and my husband is 59. I qualify for the deduction and our income together is under $80,000 and we are filing married jointly. I have checked my birthdate and it is correct. I am so frustrated trying to get this deduction, I have filed turbo tax for years and am considering changing after this struggle

Good thinking; I do believe it must have to do with the ID type, but I have an enhanced driver's license (the one with the flag on it, but real ID with star), and not a learner's permit. I can see the example on the DMV site and know my license is correct, but the software just isn't accepting it.

@DoninGA @Mike9241 @xmasbaby0 Are any of you experienced with, or perhaps find someone in the lounge who is expert enough with "item" donations to check if the form 8283 is being properly filled in for (I guess) item donations over $500. ...like for household goods, furniture clothes etc. It's not something that I'm conversant with. It seemed to be filling out the 8283 the same as in past years for stock donations that I've been doing several years now....so that's probably OK.
