I purchased this as an "add-on" to filing my taxes and received no information on how to access it to do.
The help article said that it was generated in the filing process so I kept clicking through it and instead of it popping up I got e-filed.
@CatinaT1   @DoninGA    Was it the cents removed for box 5, or for box 6?   I thought it was box 6, so that the Medicare tax was slightly lower.

Anyone know how I can direct this to TT support to see if they can replicate?   TT Deluxe - Download running on Windows 11 Solid issue, no trash can or pen to edit 1099-R forms. I can do edits using the "Forms" option but this is not ideal and I don't know what other bugs I may encounter trying to finish up the tax forms.   Thanks

Your federal income tax will be based on all your income, regardless of which state generated the income. As a Texas resident, you pay no state income tax on any of your income.    You must also file a Nebraska state income tax return to report the wages earned in Nebraska. The Nebraska Department of Revenue states that their state income tax is based only on income generated in Nebraska. Your hobby income would be excluded from this state income.   We recommend that you complete your nonresident state return first, then your resident state.

If you already submitted your return to the IRS, and they accepted it, then you will just need to sit tight and wait for their response.  If you are getting a refund, you can always check the status of it using the IRS tool  Where's my refund?   If your return gets rejected, this would be an opportunity to correct the W2 information before correcting the rejection and submitting the return again.   It is possible that they will catch your error and your return may be put in review, which would delay any refund due you.  They may mail you a letter explaining that they adjusted your return and will give you a different refund/balance due.  Bear in mind too that the IRS will only mail letters and will not contact you by phone, text, or email.   If they don't catch the error, wait until you have received your refund in your bank account before you amend your return.

I noticed that after finalizing my tax return that it was $1,200 lower than last years even though Filing Status, Total Income, Taxes Withheld, and Federal Deductions were exactly the same. No major life events or anything different from 2024 to 2025 yet a dramatic drop. What gives?

Since you have posted a response from the MASS DOR, you have clear legal authority and belief in their system that your inherited ROTH is not taxable. Keep the message and this Q & A for proof, in case you are ever audited.   I have been doing taxes a very long time and have seen many issues with MA and IRAs. Thank you!   Reference: Mass Treatment of IRAs Letter Ruling 82-124: Distribution to Beneficiary of an IRA

@jthiker    Make sure you check your actual 1040 form after answering the questions as we've suggested.  Some of the summary displays only show the total $$ entered, while the actual amount showing up as taxable income for OPM pensions will show up on line 5b of the 1040..(though, if you've entered some other non-IRA pension $$, like a TSP distribution, that will add into that line 5b too) ____________________ Beyond what we've suggested as the apparent proper steps....Customer Support:   How do I contact TurboTax?

It could take several days for your tax return to get accepted.  There are probably a large amount of people filing early this year because of things like the no tax on overtime, tips, etc...   Don't worry. The irs will eventually accept it.   Those who filed early a small amount were picked for early acceptance. Not everyone was.

As a retired Public Safety Officer, you can deduct up to $3,000 for Health insurance from your pension.   The law no longer requires that the pension fund directly deduct the amount paid for health insurance.   If this is the case, this is how to enter the amount of health insurance you paid in TurboTax.   In TurboTax Online, please follow these steps:   After you have entered your form 1099-R, continue the questionnaire until you arrive at a page titled Do any of these situations apply to you?  Put a check mark next to This money was from being a Public Safety Officer and click Continue On the next page, click on the box Yes, money was taken out to pay for Health Insurance On the next page, enter an amount up to $3,000 and click Continue The amount will be excluded from taxation.

You are seeing this because the amount of Medicare taxes withheld in box 6 is not exactly 1.45% of the Medicare wages in box 5, due to rounding.   DoninGA found that if you remove any cents for the Medicare wages (Box 5), this will clear the need for Form 8959.   Double check your entries for your W2s. You could have a Box 6 withholding error or misplaced decimal point in Box 5 (e.g., entering $50,000.00 as $500,000) will trigger the form. Go to Wages & Income and select Edit/Add next to your W-2. Check Box 5 and Box 6 for every W-2 entered. Ensure Box 6 is exactly 1.45% of Box 5. If it is off by a few cents (e.g., the W-2 shows $145.01 instead of $145.00), rounding it to the nearest dollar may remove the form requirement. If the amount in Box 6 (Medicare tax withheld) is more than 1.45% of the amount in Box 5 (Medicare wages), TurboTax must generate Form 8959 to claim a refund of that overpayment. Even a discrepancy of $1 due to employer rounding can trigger this.
